I'm inclined to 1:16 most likely or 1:14 for the next Contender PISTOL barrel I make up and part of me is even suggesting 1:18 purely for paper punching match barrel purposes, which is all this is intended to do. 12-14 inch barrel. Decisions decisions......Don't have the facility to do my own rifling so I haven't ordered a barrel blank yet. Stuck at the crossroads again.

Anybody have any bright ideas? Intended use is 50 yards and under with irons.

Won't be eating anything but .22LR match ammo other than plinking. Slower twist almost seems the better bet with light match projectiles.

???

I asked this on the single shot pistols forum and got IGNORED"

There's a reason the standard twist rate is 1:16. Stick with it. A faster 1:14 is fine, but a 1:18 is not -- not with match ammo and the velocity range you'll be operating at.

Also, as to saying "Slower twist almost seems the better bet with light match projectiles.":

Most .22 LR match ammo that I am familiar with is a full 40 grains. Lightweight in rimfire applications generally refers to 30-33 grains, and you won't find match ammo in that format.

I should have said just "match ammo". Point taken. No hollowpoints or heavy and/or high velocity projectiles is what I should have said.

Guess I need to order myself a length of 2 groove 1:16.

Thanks,
Tom
