I sold an unfired 12" TC Custom Shop 30-30 barrel last week and, when the buyer received it, he discovered it has carbine dovetail spacing. I had never tried to put a forearm on it, so I hadn't noticed it had carbine spacing......I now have it back.

My carbine forearm won't fit and I was wondering if there is a factory rynite forearm for a bull barrel with carbine spacing???? I only have 2 carbine barrels, so I don't know a great deal about the variations and accessories......

Mark

PS: This barrel is a 12" stainless Custom Shop barrel and the throat is short enough for a 130 grain Hornady SSP bullet to easily touch the lands. I would like to sell it if someone here is interested before it goes to auction. It has a few light rub marks from handling, but no scratches or dings.....it has been on a frame and the buyer installed and removed a scope base on it, but these marks are very minor.

Mark, I had the dovetails on my 15" Virgin Valley Custom Guns 6mm T/CU Barrel spaced for a Super 16 Forend, and the one I am using is Rynite. NOPE it wouldn't fit either, but I solved the problem by Free Floating the Forend. I simply wrapped sand paper around a piece of 3/4" PVC Pipe and sanded away till I to down to the pads where the screws go through the forend to the barrel. Now it fits perfectly, and is free floated except for the contact areas around the attaching screws.

I also did the same thing to a Rynite Super 14 Forend, but have since switched that barrel and frame over to Walnut Finger Groove Herrett Style Grip and Forend. Funny thing is, I think it shot better with the free floated forend.

If you are not stuck on synthetic mode, get the forends TC sells for their untapered Custom Shop carbine barrels. They will have the long spacing and the correct barrel channel for an untapered barrel.

If it has to be black, paint it black. There are textured black spray paints that will give a pretty close match to the Rynite color and appearance.

The Custom Shop sells forearms for carbine spacing in both wood and rynite, tapered and bull. BTW, if you have a single screw carbine tapered barrel, Choate Machine & Tool Co. sells a Rynite forearm.

I can't believe that somebody would return a barrel simply because he had to get another forearm. What kind of Contender guy is he? [Wink]

Honestly, I think I'm approaching a forearm nirvana as I must have one for nearly every one of my 21 barrels (even though not all the barrels are here yet). [Roll Eyes]
