XP-100 vs Striker?

I have a Striker[243 Win] B.H.P.[Big heavy pistol]. I have never held a XP-100. The XP's I have seen at gunshows, are the old 10" 221 Rem Fireball[$450-$500].
How do the newer XP's compair in size and weight to the Striker.
Are the XP's worth the extra cost? Are they that much nicer?. Or is it just the Chevy vs Ford vs Dodge thing?
I don't want to start a flame. Just want honest opinion from those that have used both.

Lone Hunter,
I guess you would call the Striker a centergrip specialty handgun which is like the original XP-100. The advantages of the Striker is you can start with a gun that has the bolt on left side, which is perfect for a right-hander. You can get a SS action and barrel, plus a synthetic stock with a magazine for under $400 in a number of cartridges based off the 308 case and a few others. The floating bolt head is the next best things to a squared Remington bolt.
The advantages of the XP is that it doesn't have a magazine (more rigid action=more inherently accurate action). It is easier to get a great trigger job (I really dislike Savage triggers on the Striker), there are good after-market stocks. You can convert it to a rear grip if you so desire (more easily than a Savage). The bolt is on the right hand side which is perfect for a left-handed shooter(Me!). More often than not you will have to customize to get the benefits of the the XP over the Striker. For a carry gun in the field the orginal Zytel stock w/a 7mmBR or 35 Remington is hard to beat.
Are the XP's worth the extra price? Depends what you want out of your specialty handgun. For me, the answer is, "Yes." For others it will be a different answer. In fact I am using a Zytel stocked 15 1/2 inch Douglas, Chrome Moly XP-100 in 250 Savage Improved for my boy to use deer hunting.
I imagine that a Zytel stocked 14 inch XP-100 would be lighter than a stock 14 inch Striker, but I have never weighed the two to confirm it.

Another case of Remington tearing themselves another b...hole was discontinuing the ORIGINAL xp's!!! The center grip ones are so far ahead of the latter manufactured ones as far as handling, they should not have called the latter ones XP-100's!!!! They should have called them "Model 7's with a two handed pistol barrel POS!!! As far a the Striker goes, it is more pleasant to shoot than the last "so called xp's" but will never be equal to the original great gun the older XP's are!!! How many people you know who would use a Striker action to build off of? The old XP's were and still are great starting points to build a custom gun off of!! GHD

Like some of the others onboard I've owned both, I had a Striker Mdl. 510F in 7mm08 for about a year and a half and it was "extremely" accurate, after installing a Rifle Basix trigger, and a very well made pistol but after owning centergrip XP's for many years prior to purchasing it I just never got used to the extra weight (6.5lbs scoped) and bulk of the Striker and traded it off to purchase yet another XP.

I've currently got four centergrip XP100's; two in 7BR, one in 300 Whisper and one in 7mm Intrl. / 7mm IHMSA and they all wear the original factory nylon stock, (a couple have custom paint jobs) which has always fit my hand just perfectly.

I have handled and shot a friends XP100-R (reargrip) many times, chambered in .260 Rem., and although also very accurate and well made I just like the balance and feel of a centergrip stock better on a bolt action pistol.

Thanks, for the replies everyone.
Why was the center grip XP-100 never made into a repeater? Just no room or Remington just never did it?
