As some of you may know, I'm rather predujiced towards the 6mm Sierra 80 grain SSP after having used it since it first became available -- and I still feel it's one of the finest bullets around for the medium-capacity 6mms. From small varmints to medium game, it has never let me down.In fact, its performance is so predictable that it's almost boring. But after two perfect performances on coyotes (and a number of smaller varmints)with the Nosler 80 grain BT, I am now convinced to set aside the Sierra for at least a while and try the Nosler on deer later this season if the opportunity presents itself. Today, I dropped a 41 pound male coyote at app. 140 yards with a slightly quartering, frontal chest shot. I recovered the bullet, all 67 grains of it and in textbook mushroom formation, just under the hide on the hindquarter. I was using a 14" 6mm TCU, and the MV (actually recorded @ 12 feet & uncorrected) of the load is 2760 fps. The bullet encountered the inside edge (bone & muscle) of the shoulder upon entry, destroyed much of the lungs and some of the major plumbing around the heart and tunneled through a portion of the liver as well. It continued on to the opposite side hindquarter where it was recovered. The other coyote was taken a few weeks ago at app. 110 yards and with a quartering-away shot. The bullet entered near the stomach and stopped midway through the neck (after busting some of the vertebrae). This one weighed 61 grains. This coyote was taken with a 14" Trapper Gun Works 6mm-.223 Contender barrel. The velocity of the load, again at 12 feet, is 2709 fps. Granted, 2 coyotes and a dozen or so small varmints certainly don't automatically qualify this bullet for deer. But it's enough to convince me to check it out a bit more...(Guess an old dog can learn new tricks <grin>

Bobby, Seems like I can always count on you to have timely posts!! I myself have been thinking of playing w/ the 80 gr NBT for varmints and possibly deer; in fact, I ordered a box last week from the Nosler factory "blems" store. I know you won't have much time to play w/ hunting season getting up to speed, but it would be REALLY interesting to see a comparison of the 80 NBT and the Sierra 80 gr SSP in your expansion testing, as well. Will be watching closely for your results w/ deer. Gary T.

Gary- My shooting and hunting is somewhat on hold at the moment. Our twins were delivered by emergency C-section today, some 2 months and 19 days before they were due. My wife has been in the hospital for over a month now. So if you guys have a prayer or two to spare, I know of 2 tiny future hunters who could really use them at the moment.
