I finally got the 6.5 BR MOA shooting and I am interested in bullet selection for whitetail. It is shooting at 2176 fps MV. I have 100 gr Hornady SP and 100 gr Nosler Partitions.

That is a very light load (2176 fps) for deer. From a 10-inch barrel, the little 6.5 TCU will do just over 2000 fps with a 120 grain Ballistic Tip, one of the finest medium game bullets for the single shot pistols. A 100 grain bullet at basically the same velocity is a little light in my experience. Also keep in mind that the Partition requires 2000 fps at impact to open reliably, and the 100 grain Hornady is a bit tough as well.

I suggest bumping up the velocity a bit and also giving the 120 grain BT a whirl.

Rich,
I also use the 120 NBT for deer, but my MV is over 2500 FPS.

Deadeyedick,

I do not have a 6.5 BR but will say without a doubt in my mind that a Ballistic Tip or Ballistic Silvertip bullet are as good as they come for whitetail taken with a handgun.

One of my XP's is a 7mm BR and I load the 120 gr Ballistic Tip to just shy of 2600 fps and have been very satisfied with its performance on deer.

Your 6.5 with a 120 gr BT at 2500 fps will shoot a bit flatter and penetrate a bit deeper so it would be a very good choice for whitetails.

Good Hunting!!
