I know this has been discussed in the past, but I never paid attention since I didn't have one at the time. Any good loads for the 221 Fireball? Forty & fifty grain bullets?
This is for an orginal length XP-100.

Just put a scope (Burris 2 1/2-7 LER)on it today. Will sight it in with an old load if weather permits. This gun must have been assembled on a Wednesday-the trigger is outstanding for factory!

AA1680 powder is great for the Fireball. I really like it. Good velocity and accuracy. It's like this powder was made specifically for the Fireball.
I was reading that AA220 is really good also. I've got 8lb. of it, so I'm going to try it.

xp100hunter, When I first bought my 221 Fireball barrel, I asked guys for their favorite powder for it. The most commonly rec'd powders at the time were (in no particular order): RL 7, AA 1680, and 4227. In early stages w/ my 12" Contender barrel from VVCG, using 40 gr V-Max bullets, I've tried H 110 and IMR 4227. At 100 yds, H 110 wouldn't hardly stay on a notebook-sized sheet of paper; 17.0 gr (2940 fps) and 17.5 gr (3020 fps) of 4227 both did VERY well; former shot 2 (3) shot groups averaging 0.6" while latter shot 0.8". I used Rem 7 1/2 primers in virgin Rem brass; OAL was 1.935", 0.02" off the lands. I like my barrel so far! In fact, I think I'll go shoot it again---now! Gary T.

Thanks for all the load data. I'm really looking forward to getting this one shooting. Marc Sheehan is in the process of getting Bower Rest System made for this XP and several others. It is going to be fun, fun, fun!

It will be nice to have one XP-100 that has a case cartridge under 06 case capacity. It is going to be fun, fun, fun! [Cool]

XP,

Sierra just sent me the following info....

AA1680 with 40 grain Blitzking
15.5 to 17.9
OAL 1.830

I have yet to try it but loaded 30 test rounds and hope to shoot them this week outta my 10" TC barrel. I loaded mine to 1.955" and i am still about a mile short of the lands in this factory barrel...LOL!

XP,

In my 10" Octagon all loads are safe and the higher velocity appears to be more accurate. The powder is clean burning. I used a WSR primer and Rem cases.

Question - Has anyone here formed Fireball cases from 222 or 223 brass? I am considering purchasing the forming die and make some cases from Winchester 223 brass.

BTW, yea, sure, rub it in....LOL!
