The caliber is well-suited to medium-range whitetails. But I believe the only "game" ammo out there features the 110 grain V-Max. Yes, the 110 V-Max is normally a varmint bullet, but at the modest velocities possible with the little 6.8, it does quite well on medium-sized game.
If you don't load for yourself, I suppose you could check out some of the custom ammo specialists and see what they'd load up for you.

Ive used the 6.8 SPC on 5 whitetails. The 110 Sierra Pro-hunter and the Barnes TSX have both worked very well for me. Shots were between 50 and 150 yds. I was going to use the V-Max this year if given the chance..but didnt work out. Ive heard it said the V-max is on the soft side for deer, but have never used it myself.

I know the 6.8 uses 270 caliber bullets I am thinking about using 130 gr ballistic tip nosler bullets what do you think about that bullet for that pistol
This is one of those things I've just got to be a jerk about... The SPC was developed to put a larger diameter, heavier bullet into an AR-15 / M-16 platform... Nothing else. If you're not shooting an AR, find a better cartridge. The SPC is limited in case capacity and will always suffer those issues. If you like it, shoot it, but you're limiting yourself on many levels, especially in a contender package.
I agree that its meant to shoot lighter bullets. 110-115 being the best weights IMO. Just because a cartridge was developed for military use does not make it a lesser hunting round.
The SPC offers a factory loaded legit 200-250 yd deer cartridge with factory ammo. To me, thats what makes it stand out in the Contender platform. Sure, better choices are out there..but it has worked pretty well for me

I see from your original post that you are asking about a "whitetail" cartridge. What is the range (in yards) that you need to be able to shoot accurately?

Better choices? Heck, there are alot of calibers to pick from, but if your staying inside of 150 yds one is just as good as the other IMO. The 30-30 or the IMP version,35 Rem,7-30 Waters even the 45-70. These are all factory loaded rounds. If you handload and pick a wildcat cartridge, your choices are just about endless. 257JDJ,6.5JDJ,309 JDJ, 358 JDJ,all of the bullberry wildcats, Belms triad or about anything you can dream up.
Out to 150 yds, your 6.8 SPC will work just fine Try the 115 gr Bonded Corlokt factory load from Remington....or the 110 gr V-max from Hornady..or Silver State's 110gr Sierra or 110 gr TSX. Any of those would work very well.
Best of luck.
