I just received a "new to me" Pachmayr Gripper grip for a Contender. I'm still not fond of the rubber look over wood. However since I really do like how the Pachmayr forend seems to be helping out my groups, I thought I should try to make at least one of the rigs match up. I'm sure it won't look as nice as Jules', but maybe he won't think of me as a "trailer trash" Contender shooter anymore! Just a couple questions, first I was told that there was an old style gripper and a newer style. The older style was suppose to not be suitable for heavier recoiling rounds like the 45-70. Is that true? if so, how can you tell which is which? Then is there suppose to be some material removed somewhere to make more room for a spring?? I seem to remember a little about that in a post before, but was sure I would never get a gripper and paid little attention. my fault. Thanks for any help, Mike

Hey Mike, Moved out of the trailer I see Anyway, I only have the one gripper...finger groves, and one presantation...no groves, witch I don't like cause they leave the roll pin that holds the hammer and spring in place exposed and it could work it's way out. I know they made 2 grippers and i'm not sure what ones I have. On my grippers, at the front...that would kinda lap over the trigger guard above your middle finger when your aiming it. Well, when you pull on the spur of the trigger guard to brake open the barrel that little piece of rubber really puts alot of pressure on the trigger guard and makes it hard to pull open. Sometimes I have to use both hands to open it. You can just cut some of the rubber out and it will relieve most of the pressure.
