The trigger is a bit better out of the box with the Contender as opposed to the G2.

To recock a Contender after the hammer has been let down, you have to open the action while on the G2, you can just pull the hammer back again.

The firing pin selectors on all Contenders, as far as I know, is on the hammer.

Cosmetically the G2 is built heavier and has a wider frame in opposing sides in a gusset type configuration. ....presumably to provide a margin of safety when using cartridges operating at higher pressures. I have both and I like the looks and trigger of the originals but the convinience of the G2.

Only the very first generation of Contenders had not firing pin selector. Plain hammer.
