The reason I work at Virgin Valley is getting to participate in a cougar hunt and meet customers like this.

I am on the left. A good friend and customer Mark is on the Right.

An old friend Josh, who is a professional guide, was kind enough to take us.

We spent Friday and Saturday trailing 2-3 different cats. The weather was unusually warm for the area, but it was great to get out. I think I may try again in about a month when the weather gets colder.
After spending some serious time trailing on Friday some other hunters joined us on Saturday. All I can say is that I was in good company.

I decided my Encore in 357 Mag would be my weapon of choice.

Good Times!

Dave-
Looks like you were in some truly rugged and remote terrain. There's nothing that compares to being out there hunting -- and it doesn't matter if a tag is filled or not.

I just received my Wyoming non-resident booklet and will be sending my forms in (with high hopes, of course).

I'm up now at this awful hour of 2:30 a.m. for 2 reasons: I am fighting the flu but still want to be out at first light and try and stalk some of the area's wild hogs. Deer season is closed in my area, but hogs and coyotes work wonders for that off-season itchy trigger finger...

Good luck on your next outing...

Pretty hard cutting tracks in dry soil though.... where's the snow when you need it? Or a little rain?

Lots of fun, though. You are making me homesick, Dave.

I knew that it would be hard hunting in the dry weather. We found three different cats. One big tom (by the paw prints) gave the dogs a run for the money. We spent about six hours before the scent became muddled. A new area opens in the middle of February. This area has a lot of snow and will prove to be successful in my opinion. Its not very often I get to get out, but when I do it is worth every minute whether I get something or not.

That is really some great looking country.

Thanks for the pics.

Dave,
Nice pics. A friend of mine who has sinced passed away used to run dogs for bobcats out here. I see the one Walker, what is the other? Is it a Plot? How many dogs did you have going?

Looked like a good time,

We hunt deer with hounds here in Florida and sometimes they'll go after a bobcat or coyote...

Dry conditions always make it really tough to jump something.

There's no sweeter music than hounds on the trail unless it's the even sweeter music they make when they have the game "jumped" and running and the hounds can "wind" the scent rather than having to scent track on the ground.

If your heart doesn't beat 90 miles per hour when the hounds jump then expect someone to be shoveling dirt in your face pretty soon. [Wink]

Good Pictures Dave. Glad you were able to get away for some relaxation...

Now... Get back to work and make us some more barrels... <grin>
