Just curious what has happened to this round? The 7TCU seems to be extremely popular......

I don't recall the 30TCU but I remember a 257TCU.

A .30 TCU should be pretty close to the optimum 10" .30 cal. It has been done I believe, but I don't know how available the dies are. Do some checking. If dies are available, later this winter I'd be glad to cut some chambers for this if for no other reason than to test the theory.

Cartridges on the 445 Super case in 30 and 35 would also be interesting.

Essentially a "modern" 30 Herrett and a Magnum version of the 357 B&D which could utilize the B&D sizing die for forming and a 44 Mag carbide die for case body sizing.

According to Midsouth's cataloge they List 30-223 F L Rem Die Set by RCBS with no price in the special order section. They also list a couple of variations of the 30-223. When I tried to look it up on the website, it is not there.

I wrote RCBS a while ago as I was thinking about doing a 12" barrel with Mike Bellm on this cartridge. Unfortunately I didn't save the email. I think I remember them saying that they would run between $80-$100. Part of the reason it never went any further with me.

I still think that it would be an interesting Cartridge to shoot.

Those prices are a little more reasonable. I was throwing this idea around with Mike Bellm for a while. I would like to revisit the idea in the future. If this Thread/idea picks up any interest maybe I'll jump in. I don't know if there would be any advantage to a group getting involve in it or not.

Dies are available, soooooo what barrel is going to make the best 30/223 for shooting 168 Match bullets?

One of the guys I shoot silhouette's with built an XP of a similar case as the above mentioned. He called it the DWRS .30 I believe. This was ground up project. The neck was some what different in length as the TCU's but if I remember correctly he used the same shoulder angle. It shot fairly well but not as good as he had planned, he wanted 180+ grain bullets. The pressures seemed to change real fast when he was doing some load development, pierced a primer or two.
He might shoot it in the AM and then again later in the early afternoon with the same load and temps were higher and the gun would start showing pressure signs. He played with it all year and figured it really wouldn't do much more than the 30x221, in his application.
