Hey guys,
I'm having problems w/ one of my Contender frames and thought y'all might could help. It is the newer manufacture (selector switch on top of hammer) Contenders, but not a G2. Not sure how many rounds have been through it. The problem is this: when I cock the hammer, the action makes a click as if the action has disengaged; if I continue back w/ the hammer, it will not set at any position, instead just falling forward to the frame. Makes no difference how fast nor how slow I attempt to cock the hammer, the action still clicks. Have been shooting Contenders for 15 years, but this is the first time I've had this problem. May need to contact TC, but they're no longer takeing e-mails and it's hard to find the time to call them during a busy day of work. Anyway, someone else may also be having the same problem. What's going on? How easy/hard will this be to repair, or do I just need to send it to TC? Thanks, Gary T.

First, try to adjust the trigger for more engagement. It is the set screw on the front of the trigger going up into the frame. If is in too far, it will cause the problem you describe. It could also be the sear has worn or broken and is no longer engaging properly. The click you here sounds like the safety getting out of the way of the hammer. This is normal and you can see it in a working frame by pulling the trigger before you cock the hammer and then pulling the hammer back just a little and letting it go forward. It will then come to rest against the frame touching firing pin instead of being held back. Pulling the trigger guard resets the hammer block safety and trigger. This sounds like what you describe without pulling the trigger so I guessing yours may just need an adjustment and possible cleaning to get it back in shooting condition.
