I always thought the 25-20 Win. in a 10"barrel would make a wonderful plinker and small game pistol.

Anyone out there have one of these little devils? If so, how do you like it?

My hunting partner has a 20" carbine barrel from the T/C Custom shop on shot 65 squirrels with it last season. Is this cartridge better suited for a carbine rifle barrel or will it do the job in a pistol?

I've got one and love it. After shooting it a few times at the range, I sold off my 10" .22 hornet Contender barrel. Likes just about everything I've tried load wise. Not finicky about powders or bullets. I used H110, AA1680, IMR4227, LilGun, Unique. Blue Dot and a few others. Cast or jacketed, it just shoots. I have the 10 inch but I have no doubt that the carbine is sweet too. It's best suited to shooting any way you can. Did I tell you I liked it? [Smile]

I've got to preview my posts better. It was a .22 Hornet that I sold. Sorry

It makes a wonderful plinker and small game rifle. Dunno why it would not do the same in a pistol since I load way down for small game anyway. The 65 grain Lyman SWCGC at 1400 fps is about perfect for what little hunting I do.

In a bolt like my Savage 23 or in a pistol, it's also a mighty good surburban varminter with WC-680 and 75 grain spitzers. I suspect that would be about perfect for a pelt hunter.

It's not a 25-20, but I have a 32-20 that I absolutely love! Shoots full house loads and plinkers VERY accurate. Not picky in the least.

I realize that demand or any other form of logic does not seem to be the drivin force behind the TC chambering and barrel salesBUT

It just seems to me a 256 Mag will do all that the 25-20 will do and it will do even MORE if asked to perform at a higher level.

Anyone know how many 10" 256 Mags bull barrels were made and where they are all hiding?

A gun shop in town has one for sale. The only problem is he wants $200 for it. Pretty steep

Check with Ed's Contenders. I think he had some .25-20 barrels made up in a special run so that they could be used in competition.

Courtney, where did you get your .25-20 barrel?

Call Ed's Contenders and get one right away! Like C.A., never take my Hornet now. Have had mine almost two years. Great with W-W factory ammo (still have 400). Clocks 1389fps @ 15ft with W-W 86gr, same as my Marlin '94CL. Death and destruction on jackrabbits. I like this barrel with open sights. Tried scope and red dot but handier without and just as accurate to 50yds. Mine does 1" at 25yd from bags with opens. Blast with factory is easy enough you don't need muffs in the field. Just got in 500 cast 85gr to try with maybe 6.5-7gr Blue Dot after season.
