Glad to hear you got a good one. The 25-06 is a caliber that TC has had major problems with (or should I say the shooters have had the problems). I have seen a number of them that could do no better than 4-5" at 100 yards. Incredibly misaligned chambers and a general lack of a true throat seem to be the primary offenders in causing the poor accuracy. A local shooter did have a 24" 25-06 that shot fairly well, and he had it cut back to 15". I helped him find a load for it, and using H4350, we came up with a load that produced just under MOA (5 shots/100 yards) with both the 100 grain Sierra flat base and 100 grain Nosler BT. But the MV of the load (52 grains H4350 in both instances) was only around 2700 with the Sierra and 2720 fps with the Nosler. The .257 JDJ, burning one-third less powder and with one inch less barrel length, comes with 50 fps of those figures. As such, I must I must disagree with the comparison between the 25-06 and 6.5mm JDJ in that the 6.5 JDJ is a far more efficient cartridge and much better suited to pistol-length barrels than the 25-06. My favored load is the 120 grain BT ahead of 34.5 grains of Re-15 for just over 2400 fps from a 14" barrel. True, the end-results may be similar, but the means of getting there have a number of significant differences. So what are your plans for the 25-06? Deer? Varmints? Targets??? mainly targets and deer i use the 375 jdj barrel for most of my hunting. im currently looking at alot of the ssk offerings and may switch to them in the not to distant future. i was thinking about the 30/06 cases blowen out and the shoulder sharpened they call them there magnum beaters. if i go that route ill sell the 25/06 barrel and buy one of them but for now im happy | |||
