Make a long story short, kind of. Ordered a G2 for my daughter needless to say haven't gotten it yet. Anyhow was at the gunshop today and saw a contender with 2 10" blued barrels. Trying to find out when the frame and barrels where made. I came across a web site once that listed all the info. Quick run down. The frame number is 186XXX. One thing that I don't know if it's normal or not the barrel is only marked 45 colt not 45-410 even though it comes with the choke tube and is clearly chambered long for the 410 shell. Appreciate any help. [Smile]

They did not transfer as hyperlinks so you will have to copy, cut and paste in your browser window.

I appreciate the info. Now one more question is there enough of a collector intrest to leave the frame alone or could I go ahead and get the easy open conversion. The frame is cherry. Thanks.

You didn't mention prices so it is hard to answer.

If the frame is reasonably priced buy it. Old style frames have likely dropped in price a bit since the G2 actually was produced and is available. Forget easy open conversion, I don't think it is worth it!

Leave both barrels behind unless someone here can tell you they have some collector value.

Go to Ed's or Rons and get any factory barrel you need, or one of several Custom barrel guys available with inquiry from this site and go forth and make holes in paper and critters!

All just a string of opinions of course!

Sorry should have mentioned that I bought it and the barrels were part of the deal so didn't have a choice. In my neck of the swamp contenders are rare so couldn't wait any longer for a G2 for my girl to start shooting. Looking to sell the barrels and grip so trying to figure out a fair price to list in the classifides. Don't care for the auction sites much so figured I'd give the forum members a chance. The barrels are both 10" blue bull with just the slightest rub marks from the frame. Were told they were never shot and the fact that the bores are still blued and you can see the tooling marks in the rifelings backs this up. They are a 223 rem and 45-410 as mentioned. The barrels are as cherry as the frame. Thanks for the help.

I may have missed it but I did not see where you mentioned whether the barrels were Bull or Octagon. Checking Eds T/C's and even the auction sights to see what the current "going" price is is a good bet. Figure off a few bucks for the the commission you would have had to pay on auction and the you have a decent starting asking price. If your daughter is not interested in those calbers you might want to put them up for trade in the classifieds and see what offers you get, you might be surprised. After all, it is almost un-American to have only one barrel for a Contender frame [Wink] I hope your daughter enjoys it!

They are both bull and yes one barrel is un- American. I have an SS encore with 4 VVC barrels at the house and 2 more on there way from VVC. So I am sure this contender will start to gain a barrel collection of its own.Daughter is 5 so she has a few years before I start her out on the pistol side of things. Thanks.
