Going out west for Antilope this fall. Taking my Striker in 243Win. Trying to find the best bullet for the job. Tried shooting 90 gr. Nosler Balistic Tip. My gun will not group them. At best a 6-8" group at 25 yards. Seeing it will not shoot the 90 gr. Do you think moving up to the 95 gr. Balistic Tip would make a difference? The gun shoots 100 gr. Sierras just fine, but I wonder if they are to heavy for the job. Thanks for any input.

Is that a typo? 6-8" groups at TWENTY FIVE yards?

NO TYPO, They were that bad. The 100gr. Sierras went .690" 3 shot group at 100 yards last time out.

More than likely, this was caused by instability. The BTs are long for their respective bullet weight -- and that would be the only reason I could imagine you getting groups that bad.

For 'lope, and considering the velocity range you will be operating at, I'd suggest something along the lines of the Speer 85 grain BTSP or Sierra 85 grain flat base. These will open well on antelope and have plenty of mass for a 100 pound animal.

However, if you would be keeping the muzzle velocity inside of 3000 fps, the Sierra 80 grain Single Shot Pistol bullet would be my hands-down choice. I've used it for years with superb results.

The 100 grain bullets are giving you ample accuracy, but on a slightly longer shot, you may only get minimal expansion on something that provides as little resistance as a pronghorn.

I would agree with Bobby. My friend has a Competitor in 243 Win and he shoots 80gr to 85gr bullets on deer he likes the 80gr Remington and 80 Nosler BT best. He tried some 95gr and 100gr bullets and the first deer he shot with this 100gr bullet did not open up well and this was a shoulder shot. The 80gr and 85gr bullets work best in a 243

the 80gr sierra sspb has been very accurate in three different 6mm barrels. it will shoot when nothing else will for me. 12" twist or 10" twist, doesn't seem to matter. [Cool]

Having worked with a .243 Savage Striker I can understand what you are talking about. Mine absolutely hated the 90gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips. I tried several different powders to no avail.

I then switched to the old standby 80gr. Speer Spitzer and things were much better. Accuracy was quite good, as was performance on game.

While I have never tried the 80gr. Sierra SSP I have heard nothing but good about this bullet.

In my current 6mm T/CU I am quite fond of the 80gr. Noser Ballistic Tip, and it is producing quite good accuracy. However I have shot nothing but paper with it so far. Hopefully this coming Deer Season I can change that.
