Knowing that you are a FFL holder,
What is the correct "legal" way to ship a Encore frame to have work done on it?

I have had non FFL holder's sell to me and ship to me, and as an FFL have shipped to gunsmiths etc, but I have never personally shipped to a liscensed gunsmith as a non FFL, so I am going from memory here. You may want to verify all of this at the link down below.

If you are shipping FFL to FFL, then US Mail is the cheapest way, but it is only available from FFL to FFL.

If you are shipping non-FFL to FFL, then UPS or Fed Ex is the correct method. I have noticed Fed Ex employees to be more knowledgable and give less hassle regarding what you may legally do or not do shipping a firearm to the factory, or a liscensed gunsmith or dealer, but UPS may be cheaper.

It is rare, but depending upon the area of the country you are in, both Fed Ex and UPS may ask to see a copy of the recipient's FFL in order to prove that the recipient is indeed an liscensed FFL holder, so you may want to try to have this in hand ahead of time should the need arise.

As you are not an FFL, and are not sending the frame to an FFL as a sale, I *THINK* a faxed or attached .jpeg copy of the recipient's FFL would probably suffice for this purpose, as it is simply to prove to the shipper that the recipient IS a valid FFL holder, and of course the frame should be going to the exact address that is listed on the FFL.

Were you selling the frame, you'd have to have an ink signed copy from the recieving FFL, and may need one here as well. I am told that some states will not allow a non FFL to ship a firearm at all, so you may want to verify this with your state laws as well, so as to avoid any of the legacy of Sen. Metzenbalm [Big Grin]

Also, you may wish to search here in case I have not fully answered some aspect of your question.

Hope this helps!
