The bottom left bull of the 6x223 was shot with a 70gr Hornady SXSP not a Sierra blitz. The center was shot with a Sierra 70gr blitz at 150yds

The only group I shot at 50 was the first 5 of the 308x444 and I pulled the very first shot.

One thing I may add about the 308x444 is the excess pressure ya get when ya have the bullets to close to the lands or even worse {in the lands} I found that out very quickly. I was way under what I thought was max but the primers were flat and the cases had an imprint of the breach face on them and were sticking and the action hard to open. I was only gettin 2100FPS and the pressure was really up there. After 2 shots I figured this out and seated the bullets deeper "About a 1/16 of an inch" and I got 2275FPS with the 165s with no signs of pressure at all. Even the edges of the primers were nice and round with the same load. Kinda like using Barnes X bullets. I Know I can get better groups with it but not with a 2x6 scope. Still ain't bad though.

BTW, accuracy did not drop off when I seated the bullets deeper.

Here is a picture of happens. The 2 cases on the right were with the bullets seated into the lands and the pressure was up and the volocity suffered. The 2 on the left were the same load only the bullets were seated .010 off the lands.

A little about the guns in case you don't already know.

The 223imp is a 20" step up barrel from Les Bauska. It was a $50 blank BTW and made up by Mike of MBM/OTT LLC. It has a Simmons 6x18x42 on it. The wood is a Boyds buttstock and the forend was made by Jim Williams.

The 6x223 is a 16 1/4" Douglas in full bull made by Mike of MBM/OTT LLC. It has a 10x40 Elite on it and the Green/Black laminate was made by Jim Williams.

The 308x444 started out as a 12 1/2" 30-30Win made by VVCG but has been rechambered by Mike of MBM/OTT LLC. It has a 2x6x32 Trophy on it and the brown laminate was made by VV Mark of VVCG.

You are now making me realize that I should have had the extra 30 Herrett Barrel out of here and being rechambered for the 308X444.

It is 14 barrel, but 8 groove so velocities would likely be about the same!

I wonder just how far out that 165 grain BT or SST will perform with that starting velocity. What the heck, very likely beyond my ability to shoot anyway!

What is recoil like with the 165 grain bullet at 2275 fps?

THANX for the report and pictures.

Range ius closed so I just shot 22s here at the house.

Thanks Jules, I like the "War Wagon" too. [Big Grin] I need a utility body on my pickup to carry the shooting stuff now. [Wink]

Thanks for the velocity reading on the 308 in the 12.5" bbl., that's intriguing. I would imagine this tube would sing with a 130.

Is that a bow case? Nice touch. Wood is beautiful in those guns.

Regards

Louis, My barrel is an 8 groove also. I would think the Noslers would work well out to around 250 to 300yds at 2275 but not sure about the Hornadys. Most of these rounds were already loaded and left over from my 309JDJ barrels I had. I still think the 150s are the best bullets for the 308x444 and after many different load combos I have used, my powder of choise is VV N160 with the 150 and 165s.
Recoil is stiff but not really that bad. It's about like shootin a 10" 44mag with some 240s and a full case of 296 [Wink]

Ray, Believe or not it's still not big enough for all the tools, scaffold and ladders let alone my range gear. Your just seeing it without all the shit that goes with me everyday [Big Grin] It takes me an hour to unload it at the house so I can get my gear in. But that is what they {Va. Drywall} gave me and i'll take it [Wink] The racks make a great deer stand when I park in the middle of a cutover and get on top [Big Grin] After having a truck with a utilily bed it's hard to go without one. You would like it for sure.

I took 125s, 130s and some 150s but I never got the chance to reload any. I really just wanted to test it and the other OTTs out so Mike and all of ya'll would be able to see how they work. Not only that, a few of the club members were dove hunting there and stopped to bullshit while I was working with this stuff. I like to BS for sure but not after drivin 2 hours to shoot.LOL!

That's me custom gun case [Big Grin] They just don't make any type of case that will handle these custom guns so I had to come up with something [Wink] It works really well and I won't carry anything wit a scope on it in a soft side case.

Jules, congrats. looks like you have some fine shooting pieces there! I just got back from a Colorado bow hunt and now have to make time to get serious with my 26" bull OTT 6BR fashioned from a Les B blank. I am greatly encouraged by your results...and of course dealing with Mike.
