one of us |
Even through this thread is so old I can't help but notice how many of us cut our teeth so to speak on Bob Miliks stories and articles on handgun hunting. Story after story when Guns and Ammo was my favorite magazine becouse of Bob and Elmer. Elmer with his big bore sixguns and Bob with his custom Contenders and XP100's. I never got to meet Elmer he was already ill the forst NRA convention I went to in 82 but I did finually get to meet Bob. In his stories I always fogures him to be a giant of a man so imagine mu surprise when he barely stod over 5 feet. Still height is not the measure of a man and he was one of my heros along with Elmer, Skeeter, Jordan, and a few others I always read every month. I guess I spent more paper route money on gun rags than most kids. I still have the two specutility publications petersond put out by Bob on handgun hunting the forst covered a variety of different handguns revolvers, automatics, and of course the Contender. The second was almost entirely on hunting with the Contender with a couple of other single shot pistols thrown in for good measure. I still this many years later treasure them both. I am amazed how many of us got into handguns becouse of Bob. I still remember reading about him and Steve taking the first big game animals with the 30 and later 357 Herret cartridges. I always enjoyed his articles usually reading them first then on to elmers column. Then came that fatefull day when I read the worst. bob was gone. Cancer. It seems he had been fighting it for some time but never let on. Then he was gone and there was nobody to fill his shoes. To this day there still isnt. He was a pioneer in handgun hunting and I will always remember him and what he tought me agout guns and hunting. Its nice to know he was so much an influnence on so many others. Jim L | ||
