As I recall, a few folks here have such a beast, but I don't ever recall seeing any crono readings. If you've got any results, please share them, it's one of those "future" barrels I'm thinking about.

Paul, My 20" Van Horn barrel.
With the Speer 180FN I was gettin 2565fps with AA2460 and just over 2400 with Speer 220FN and the same powder.
The Nosler 225BT was right at 2600fps with AA2520 with no sign of pressure, but this load beat me to death. I'll stick with the lighter loads while playin [Big Grin]

Jules,

That's about on par with a 358 win, not bad at all! I keep debating getting a carbine barrel for my contender, and the 358X444 calls to me.

How has the accuracy been from the Van Horn barrel?

Paul,
Only had one outing with the barrel. But it did very well. The Speer 220 was less then an inch and the 180 was right at an inch...give or take an 1/8". I couldn't get the Nosler 225 BTs to do better then 1 1/2". But like I said in my other post, this barrel really kicks and it will take me a little while to fine tune my loads. AA2460 works very well in this 35 bore.
I don't think the 358s are really known for accuracy, so I think that 1" is great.
Yes, I think DVH has done a great job building this barrel and I do suggest you try one. But hold on!! It's a thumper [Big Grin]

Jules,

I think the 35's are as accurate as the 33's and 375's. My 350 Rigby, think of a 375 H&H necked down sans belt, will group 3 250 gr hornadies into 3/4" at 100 yds, leaving the tube @ 2700 fps. That with a mauser action, military trigger, Midway A&B barrel, and a 2.5x scope.

That's some very good shooting with the 35cal.
I have the 250s but haven't loaded any yet. Since my 250imp won't be here this weekend, maybe i'll just shoot the 358x444 a little more. I might try some of the 250s. [Wink]
