No problem, glad I could help.......been thinking about a 376 Steyr barrel for my Competitor single shot pistol.....I already have a 338-06 ackley improved barrel, so the 376 will be down the road awhile if it happens.

I currently shoot the 30-06 and 444 Marlin in 15" Encore and want to step up to .375 caliber. And Cooper's 376 Steyr has always interested me in the Encore.

Having never shot anything in medium bore I would like some feedback from you guys that shoot medium bores in Encore platforms. Good, bad, indifferent?.

And if the feedback is not positive for the medium bores I would appreciate any information concerning the larger .40+cal.

I like the big boomers, just not sure about the right caliber for the next step. And that step would be for hunting larger game than deer.

Have you shot the 375 JDJ? Plenty of power in a TC, should be gang buster in an Encore. With the newer bullets, the 375 does everything you need. Kelley has shot everything on the planet with a TC, complete penetration thru both shouders on an elk at 100 + yards. The 270 gr Hornady interlock has been the standard. I'd also look at the Barnes X bullet since they expand and penetrate so well.

While the 375JDJ has proven it self afield. I was looking for something with better ballistics.

I have a 375 JDJ contender and a 376 Steyr rifle......the 376 has more case capacity and will produce more velocity than the 375 JDJ......

Have you read this article?

Yeah.... The 376 Steyr is my choice too. I'm gonna save my pennies and have JD make me one with a good shark fin type of brake and some nice fluting.

I'd like to have one for elk, moose, and bear hunting.

I can't imagine a better cartridge for big game for an Encore handgun or short carbine.
