I never thought about a .416Wsm, great idea!!! That would add a mean hit on any critter,(and the shooter). I have ben getting the idea of taking a bear hunt in east Tenn., now I'm one that wants a gun for every thaing. My girlfriend & I were talking on the bear hunting, I was thinking on what to use. A .454, .480, or desert eagle.50ae. Now you put the idea of a .416wsm in my little mind. I see it now, a bear at 125yds, my crosshairs of a XP in .416 dead on. BOOM(ouch), where is the 400lb bear, there it is dropped in it's tracks. yes I like the idea of yours .416WSM. One more what of the 500 S&W. ,FPS energy, so on. Not a big S&W fan but big wheel guns are nice.I'm short so I like big guns, compensates for my lack of height. Thanks CFP

CFP,

The 416 WSM would be one hell of a close to moderate range bear hammer, any bear for that matter.

About the 500 S&W Magnum, from the specs on their web sight, they are listing a Muzzle energy of 2600 ft/lbs. For a revolver, this is truely impressive.

Of course, it really does not matter how fast you drive a revolver bullet, they all peter out at around the 150 yard mark for the biggest and 100 for the 44-480 class rounds.

I am not one for comparing kenetic energy but just for the fun of it, my 338 WSM XP-100 produces right at 3500 ft/lbs of energy. Combine that with 1/4 mile range and 3/8" groups at 100 yards and there really is no comparison.

In all honesty, I will probably have one of these new 500 Magnums but really, it will do nothing that my 480 Ruger or my Encore in 50 A.E. will do except bark alot louder and kick alot harder.

On game preformance will not be a factor on North American game. But since it is the most powerful production revolver at what seems to be a good price, I may have to get one just to play with.

Good Shooting!!

Let me know if you decide on the 416 WSM.
