I told the story about the 300WSM XP-100.The new powder showing sign of high pressure in this damn heat. The guys in the previous post talk a lot about it there. The heat that is. Measured some cases today.New brass at the base (all of this is at the base) .550 just what the specs say.Resized case measure the same. The brass that blew the primer out measured .561 and most of the lot went from .558 to .559 the brass that I just shot last week after a 5 grain drop in charge on four differnt bullet weight was .557 and it is snug goin back into the chamber. Question: Could this be a bad chamber job or the barrel not set back right, bad or weak brass.Or the nut behind the gun (also doing the reloading) could be loose. That much drop and brass still tight goin in velocity is awful 130gr,150gr,165gr Nosler BT all right at 2500 to 2550fps.The 180gr Nosler BT was at 2350fps.This sounds way to low for some signs of pressure.Any ideas.By the the accrucay is great shooting under a inch at 100yds, Wade

Sliml; Yes the bolt lifts easy, easy enough that when I was at the range I thought evwer thing was okay. When I put the brass back in the chamber it is tight and you can tell the diffrence in resized brass and once fired brass. Wade

Is your resizing die a custom (made from the chamber reamer) or standard one? Is your neck a standard or tight neck? What powder are you using? I know the Hodgon Extreme series is very consistent in varying temperatures. A comparison of a sized case and a fired case may prove interesting. If you can't find a satisfactory solution in your own trial and error efforts I would send it to someone I trust (a professional) that will tell like it is whether it be good, bad, or indifferent. If I run into problems I don't understand I call Greg Tannel (Gre-Tan Rifles) 970-353-6176 whether he did the work or not. I personally trust his judgement. They are number of good accuracy smith's out there. I just happen to know Greg personally. Ernie

xp100hunter; Have not heard from you in a while.I havbe solved it.Refer to post labled (Any takers). I cheated so what I was tired of this 300WSM I would like to try it in a Stiker.I might have some brass to sell or trade for 300RUM.Wade

I have the same thing going on with a 24" 300WSM barrel. My loads are mild but the chamber must be cut a little too large..brass gets those one sided bulges. I guess its virtualy impossible to get correct bullet to bore alignment even with full length sizing. I dont understand how rechambering to a 300RUM helps. My Nosler #5 shows the WSM measuring .555" .200" up from the base and the RUM measuring .550" at the same location. New Win WSM brass does measure .550" once fired in a factory M70 measures .552-.554" Once fired in my "custom" 24" runs .553-.556" Where is Mike B when you need him...off hunting I guess...cant blame him.

Wade, If you try the 300WSM in the Striker I wouldn't use their barrel, since it is only 12 inches. Save a custom action the Savage bolt will align/center better than any other bolt action. Are you rechambering the XP to 300RUM or selling it? What kind of barrel did you use for the 300WSM? I just had an in-line bullet seater made for my Patriot. I am also going to Sierra Game King's (180 or 200 grain ) for elk hunting this year. Needed a bullet that was accurate with a high B.C., and that would expand properly over a range of velocities. Right now it is to hot to shoot and things are to hectic at the moment anyway. xphunter

xp100hunter; I am rebarreling it to 300RUM,I think it is a sin to sell a XP-100. Barrel off of the 300WSM was a Hart.Goin to hang on to it I think?? Don't know what will happen with the 300 RUM,but read in the AMERICAN HUNTER that the guy doing the Striker 300 WSM testing had a XP-100 in 7mm STW.Start low and work my way up.I like the cases on the RUM a lot better,WSM cases never seem to be the same, and that might be because of my chamber. It will be a while before I will have it back.
