Would like to know what velocity you are getting and how long the barrel is..? I'm thinking of a 16.5" tube.

I don't think there are many guys who have a 338-06 in a specialty handgun. Basically, you will get the rifle performance of a 338-308. If I was going to wildcat an 06 case for the 338 I would go ahead and Improve it realizing that I would then be close to the same performance one would get in a rifle in 338-06. I guess it all depends on what kind of performance you want.

I would like to have a 338cal in a handgun of some sort just don't know what to get.I'm not sure a 338Win Mag would be the best way to go or not.

T/C- I think I posted on this subject once before, may be having what some refer to as a Senior Moment, but anywhay I have a 338-06 JDJ 16" barrel with break and get a little over 2600fps with 200 grain bullets, and 2700 plus with 185 grain bullets. My loads are not max but the most accurate in my barrel this is with IMR 4064 powder, when I purchased this barrel from SSK JD sent a note with it saying that they get the best accuracy and velocity with this powder. I had a 338-06AI Encore barrel that was 15" including brake 13 1/2" w/o. I shot it several years got around 2500fps with 200g Hornady SP. Don't have my info handy so I can't give details. Took a couple of deer with it last year did a fine job. Very easy to fire form and shoot the fireforming loads were very accurate. I had such good luck with a 300WinMag that Bellm chambered for me that I sent the 338-06AI to Virgin Valley and had them rechamber it to 338WinMag. It is fantastic as a 338WinMag.I'm pushing a 180g Nosler BT at 2840fps. It is very easy to reload and brass seems to last. If you want any specifics let me know and I'll try to round them up for you.
