Well, guys, our 10 year-old got lucky over the weekend and wound up with a nice .410 shotgun from the National Wild Turkey Federation banquet. Locally, I was only able to find the 2.5" Rem load of #6s, which is fine for now. But I bought their last 2 boxes -- and today, he went through all but about 5 of those 40 rounds (these are the 20-pack) as we made our way through the pasture and found all sorts of "targets" for him to shoot at. And apparently, that load is all the store's "distributor" handles in .410.

So, my question is: which mail order outfit has the best prices & selection on .410 ammo? He keeps me busy loading 6.5x55, but I don't (and won't) get into shotshell reloading. There's just not enough time for all the calibers I already load for. ANd at the rate he's going, I'd be loading around the clock <grin>.

Bobby - I can't remember the place offhand, but I think it was Able Ammo (in Texas if I remember right). They had pretty cheap prices on .410 loads manufactured by Estate Cartridge.

My first recommendation would be to do a search on Able Ammo and if that doesn't turn up anything then search Google.com for Estate Cartridge. Good luck to the young'un...those .410's are pretty tough to hit things with.

Bobby, what type gun is it? If it is a NEF single shot you could send in and get a 20g barrel for it and the savings in ammo cost would pay for the 20g addition.
I took my son out to Sweetwater to dove hunt and found a box of 410's out there 50 count....$22

Thanks for all the info...I appreciate it.

Ken-It is a single shot from NEF, the "Pardner" version. Geting a 20 gauge barrel never crossed my mind, but it is definitely a good idea. But it may be a while before I do this, though, because it would be too tough to pry it from his hands! He has other guns and shoots a few of mine, but this is his first shotgun, and he is really enjoying it.

I did manage to locate 3 more boxes of the 2.5" Remingtons with #6 shot, and I paid $6.95 per box (these are the 20-count boxes). But I will check out some of these sites and see what kind of price I can get for a case.
