I'm getting sucked into getting back into contenders Big Grin I'd sold all my barrels and even got rid of my frame, then a buddy just happened to have a frame, and I thought maybe I should try contender carbines this time around.

Well, I just miss the pistols, and the frame still doesn't have a barrel. I'm thinking of trying something I haven't tried before and was thinking of the 308 Bellm. I was wondering what type of velocities it could get with 110-130 gr bullets.

Paul:
Mikes site http://www.bellmtcs.com has reloading data. The data for the .308 Bellm starts with 130 gr. bullets.

Hope this helps.

Here is a reply I got to the same question on this site a couple of years ago (at least I think it was on this site). I haven't personally tried any of the loads so use with care. I don't remember the repliers sign-on name for this site, but at one time he posted here reguarly. I'm not doubting his data, I just haven't had a chance to the loads myself.

I think you will be very happy with the .308 Bellm. I am getting 2640 fps with 125 gr Nosler B/T's out of mine using 51 grs. of w760 in a rechambered 17" inch 30-30 barrel and the accuracy is outstanding. The 13 year old son of a friend of mine used mine to take his first deer and she went down hard after one hit (complete pass-through).

Reply to my question:

Ok guys here it is,
My first try with 110gr Sierra's, #2110
Rem Brass
CCI-200 Primers
H4895 Powder
COL, .005 off rifling, 2.801
All Averages are 5 shot averages.
42grs. 2337fps
43grs. 2406fps
44grs. 2454fps
45grs. 2476fps
46grs. 2520fps
46.5grs.2574fps
I don't have any targets for these loads so I don't know about the accuracy, sorry!

The next load I tried, and yes I have some targets from this load, is Sierra's 110gr #2110
Rem Brass
CCI Primers
H-322 Powder
COL, 2.803
All of these Averages are 5 shot except the 42gr. load. It was a 3 shot average.
39grs 2404fps Group size 1.508 outside to outside
40grs 2471fps " " 1.375 " " "
41grs 2529fps " " 0.883 " " "
42grs 2590fps " " 0.637 " " "

This is where I quite working with the 110gr bullets. I still need to get back to them and play around with the 42gr load a little more! This should be one heck of a varmint round

One more note: I did all this before I worked up a RED-LINE load with Don Shearers Spring-Back Test. All of the loads I shot were safe in MY barrel. When I get back to the 110's I now have a RED-LINE to go by. I could possible even go a little higher. I won't know until I shoot some more of the 110's.
As always, start your loads low and work up to a Max. Load for YOUR barrel.

Let me know if you come up with any other loads!! I'll do the same!

Thanks for the replies. It looks like it doesn't gain a whole heck of a lot over the various 6.5's and 7's that push 120's 2400. Not sure I'd want to burn an extra 10 grs of powder for only an extra 150 fps.

Has me thinking more and more about an encore in 308 win Wink
