The 358 Norma works well in a Competitor. I keep the loads down to get good extraction. You should be able to get the same velocity from an Encore as I do from the Competitor; 225grn. Sierra boattail at just over 2700 fps. I use 338 Win. brass and size them to 35 cal. then fire form with slightly reduced loads. I think 338 Win. brass may be cheaper than 376 Steyr and get better ballistics. The drawback is the dies are exspensive for the Norma. Just a suggestion.

I am impressed Me_Plat with those numbers and did a search and looked into the 375-06 JDJ. Though limited time right now I will prusue this matter further when I have time. For a handloading proposition it truely is a screamer and being a handloader it is a doable task. I really appreciate all of the information that you guys have given me. Anyone that shoots these fine hand cannons know we are a special group and rely on each for load information. Thank you all.

What Is wrong with the 375-06 JDJ. Plenty of brass and easy to fireform. The fireform loads have more power than the 375 JDJ and when formed one can get 2350 with the 270 Hornady which is right there with the 376. Also one doesn't need a gill type brake with these type cartridges. If you do then one has a problem with recoil as SSK's arrestor brake with the 30 holes is more than enough. Even a full 375 H & H Mag is not bad at all with the arrestor. 2350 from 14 inches is plenty good. Course another 50 fps probably would turn it into a real game killer I guess.
