I'm new here and have a few questions. I got my first single shot last year, a 308 encore pistol with a 15" barrel. I have the thompson solid mount and a 2x9 scope. I am new to long range pistols, but an avid rifle, shotgun and archer. I am looking for some reloading data for this pistol. It will mainly be used for whitetail hunting and plinking. I curently use remington corelock 150 gn bullets and am suprized at how accurate this pistol is. I can consistantly hit 20 oz pop bottles out to about 200 yards off of a rest with it. The recoil, however is abit stiff. Does any one have any data on this cartridge with a faster powder or a lighter bullet? Any other ideas would be welcome also. Thanks guys. Chad Ross

chadr, I have the 15" 308 for my Encore as well. http://www.hodgdon.com/data/pistol/308win.php
This link will take you directly to Hodgdon's web site where they have data developed for a 15" barrel. I use 165 Nosler BLT and the top load of BLC/2 listed for the 168 Nosler. My velocity is 2524. I hope to try it out on deer this saturday in Missouri.

Chadr, I have the same set up and it too is very accurate. As far as light bullets goes I have had good luck with the 110 grain Sierras(look like flying ash trays) and 125 grn. NBTs over Win748. Barnes 140 Xs shoot extremely well out of mine using BL-C2. I have some 125 Barnes X spitzers (which are no longer made but still on some shelves) over some Varget loaded up and waitng for a still evening. I dont have my data in front of me but I can email you the specifics if you need them. BTW I have had my best luck with Fed. 210M primers. Good Luck

I have a 15" 308 Encore also and love it. I shoot 125 gr NBT's loaded with 51.5 grains of W-748 and get great accuracy and they really wack a whitetail. I have also shot the 165 NBT's and like them also. I have almost I repeat almost retired my 44SRH but not quite. Good Luck and Good Safe Hunting.

Thanks for all of the info guys. This sight is great. I can't wait to try some of these. I will have to buy for powder. Most of mine is slow burning, because I mostly load shells for .243 and 7stw's. Is there a noticible amount of recoil reduction with the 125 over the 150?

On the Bench... Yep! Shot on Game Nope! I personaly am unable to shoot good groups with a tight grip...I barely have a hold on the thing when it goes off..my shooting buddies laugh at some of the positions the gun and I end up in....but the laughing stops when they check the target.
Good shooting
Dave
