Started my hunting season with a successful hunt . Drew a ES Oryx depardation hunt off of the missle range for Aug. Saw two Oryx second day of hunting and after several stalks I was able to get within range. One shot from my HS Precision 2000 and I had my first big game of the season. Stats: HS Precision Pro 2000 handgun, varmint stock, .308 caliber, 165 gr Nosler Partition, H4895 powder, federal primer, PMC brass. Rangfinder showed 232 yds. Oryx ran approx. 40 yds and fell. Complete penetration and destroyed lungs. Field dressed 350 lbs. Just got the meat back and it is excellent. Posted pictures on the YAHOO specialty pistol group. TC (NMHUNTER)
Good deal! My wife and I have both been fortunate to draw tags and take oryx on the range. Darn good eating, but we're nearly out of that meat. Now, how to get another tag?

Congratulations on the Oryx. That just has to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. And those suckes are big too - almost as big as an elk.
I lived in Las Cruces for a few years in the late 80's and worked at the Missile Range. We would see those big buggers all the time. I always wanted to hunt for them, but no luck in getting a license. It is nice to hear of someone who had success at it.
Lets see some pictures.

Hey tc2, that'a s great looking oryxy. I'd sure like to draw an off-range tag. I've got a good spot picked out if I could just get the tag. Oh well, at least someone is getting them and having some luck. Have you eaten any of it yet? Great tasting meat if you ask me.
Just for the fun of it, here's the one I killed in January 2000:
It wasn't with a handgun, but stalking up on her with a rifle was still a lot of fun!
