I'm getting ready to receive this barrel from VVCG's shorty sale. 12", with a 1-10 twist. My ? is, what bullet weights are best suited for this twist rate? Also, input on favorite loads and bullets which work well. Thanks in advance, Jeff

I'd put my vote in for one of the various 87gr bullets. I happen to really like Hornady's VMAX unless you're going after bigger animals.

Jeff,

I certainly do not intend to sway you from the 6mm-284 but in a 12" handgun barrel this round will do no better then the 243 Win, except to increase recoil and muzzle blast without much more velocity.

Again don't get me wrong, I love the 6mm-284, its one of my favorite long range rifle rounds. If it were me, and it isn't, I would look at the 243 or its improved brother.

Whatever round you decide to use, your 1-10" twist will handle all conventional bullets from 55 to 100 gr. Except for perhaps the 100 gr Boattail SP's from speer and Sierra, have to try them and see. As for bullets, I really like the newer 80 gr Ballistic Tips or the cheaper 75 gr and 87 gr V-Max bullets.

Remember that in a short barrel, a larger bore will produce higher velocities then a small bore, something to think about.

Good Shooting!!!
