Hey guys,
I was thinking last night about guns I didn't buy, but later REALLY regretted having passed on the purchase. [Frown] There are 2 guns that quickly come to mind. Both times it happened at a local gunshow; both times, the gun was not something I was specifically looking for. The first occurred about 5-6 years ago. It was a Rem 700 BDL, 222 Rem, heavy barrel, nice wooden stock, w/ Leupold 12X and a nice brand of one piece mount/rings. I passed on it for $450.... [Eek!] Still kick myself in the behind for that mistake.... I even got the dealer's business card and called him about the gun a few months later, but he's sold it. The other gun was found at the same gun show 2 years ago. It was Rem XP-100 Repeater in 260 Rem and included a 3-9X Burris LER scope, nice mount/rings, sling, and expensive soft-sided case. The price on it was also $450.... [Razz] W/ the 222, I just would've liked to have it as a varmint gun. Would've been really nice as a "starter" gun for my kids. W/ the 260, I might have kept it as is (but at the time I already had Contenders in 6.5 JDJ and 300/221, 250 Savage Encore, as well as a 308 Win Striker) or used it as a basis for a custom gun at a later date. Could've made a profit "partint it out", as well.... There's my two biggest regrets. [Embarrassed] What are yours? [Wink] Gary T.

Back in the early 70's, when Dirty Harry was popular, I managed to trade for a 8 3/8", blue model 29 S&W. Back then, they were pretty hard to find, and brought about $450 if you could find one. I mentioned to a dealer that I had one, and he immediately tried to buy it, because he had a person looking for one at ANY price. I didn't want to sell, and he finally offered to trade me a NIB, pre-AMT, stainless, .44 AutoMag, even trade. I spent about an hour trying to make up my mind, and finally left, taking my model 29 back home with me. I was in my 20's, back then, and figured that I was cool cause I had a "Dirty Harry" pistol. Now the Smith is worth about $400 and the AutoMag would be worth over $2000. As I get older, I notice that my hindsite gets better every year.

About 5 years ago I passed on a XP-100 single shot that had been rebarreled to a 250 savage and a nice rear grip stock for $325. Came back a couple of days later and it had been sold.

Hi Gary:

In the late '80s my dealer at the time offered to sell me an OPEN BOLT Mac 10 .45 with two extra twenty round mags and a flash hider extension for $400.00. It looked to be unfired. I was looking for another hunting rifle at the time and figured that I could buy something like that anytime. I am still kicking myself in the ass for not jumping on it.

Shortly after I started getting "serious" with my wife, we found a super M70 featherweight stainless with Nikon scope and a walnut stock that had been professionally cut down. It fit her to a tee, but I wanted something larger than a .243 for her. We ended up with a real nice tang safety Ruger in .257 Roberts (also cut down to fit her great), but I sure wish I had that little featherweight, especially now that we have a little girl that will hopefully join the hunt.

A couple of months ago Marty (fo the 458 socom fame) posted an Encore pistol for sale chambered in his 458 Socom-R cartridge. I debated and debated...then he droped the price below 300 and it got snagged before I could buy it.

I may regret passing on it, but my wrist breathed a sigh of relief...

Found at a yard sale a pristine 92 Winchester that was rechambered to 218 Bee, had cresent butt plate & octagon barrel for $350. Had looked at it 2 times & on 3rd time went back to buy it. Unfortunately it was gone. Have kicked myself ever since.

There are two of them.

The first was a blunderbuss for sale at a flea market in State College, PA.

The second was a 540X for sale in Meriden, CT.

I kick myself every time I think of either one, and I should kick you for reminding me.

my biggest regret was not purchasing a Ruger Number 1 varmit barrel 220 Swift with beautiful figured wood. I found it in a sporting goods store in southern Kansas that was going out of business for $345.00 new in the box. I still kick myself in the butt over that one.

Same thing happened to me in the early 80's. Friend of mine had it. He was into military style semi-autos; I wasn't. I too still kick myself for not buying it.

Around 1972 was offered a 3rd Model Colt Dragoon, 85% blue and case colors. $900...but the kicker was that I could take as long as needed to pay it off. That gun is probably worth several thousands or more...oh well......

i, ME STUPID (ALL THE SAME PERSON) had the chance to buy a engraved model 12 Winchester for $175. Didnt like Winchesters at the time so I bought myself an 870 Remington, still like the way the Rem. shoots but that Model 12 would be worth about 2500 I guess. My old buddy was trying to give me the damned thing but I was hard headed then but worse now
