Looking for a LER scope

I'm putting together a stainless Contender 14" 17 Mach IV and am looking for an appropriate scope. What I'd like is a Burris long eye relief, 3X-9X nickel finish, duplex reticle, paralax adjustable, scope in excellent to new condition. I'd rather not have the posilock feature, but that wouldn't kill it.

Anyone out there have one you'd like to sell? Send me a PM and we will go from there. Also listed on the Classified page.

Don, i've got a 6.5-20X Simmons rifle scope on mine, and even @ 20X the gun doesn't recoil enuf to be a consideration. Had a 4.5-14X Simmons ATV on it but had to sell it to a friend. I think Ernie posted some pics of Bower's clinic somewhere here. There's a pic of it in there.

ssc,

Thanks for the note. I had a 17 Mach IV from the T/C Custom shop some months ago but it had an off-center chamber and didn't perform up to my expectation, so I sold it to a fellow who thought a 3/4" group was just fine. However, I also noted that it was pussy cat in terms of recoil, so using a rifle scope may be the way I will have to go. There don't seem to be many silver Burris 3-9X scopes around, and Burris doesn't list it in their product brochure anymore. They do list a 3-12X but WOW that puppy lists for $579.00. I also talked to Ed Kirkpatrick about a 3-9X and he said in all the time he has been dealing with Contender stuff he has seen only one or two of the silver 3-9's.

I haven't decided which way to jump on this one though, so I'll hang on for a bit longer and see what if anything shows.

Don, I use a 3-12 Burris LER with the target turrets on my 308 BELLM and love it. If you can get one for 300-325 grab it you will not be sorry!

Don,
Bearbasin has the Burris LER 3-12X 32mm Nickel (AO) without PL for $309. http://www.bearbasin.com/catalog2.htm#hand_scopes

Or you could try the Nikon 2.5x8x28 it also comes in silver finish, and besides...I need to know first hand how the Nikons are [Big Grin] I may just get one [Wink] I believe D&R has them for less then $250.

KENTN, Jules,

Thanks for the tips. That price posted by Bear Basin is super!! As soon as I hang up here I am going to call and order that Burris 3-12X. I'll let you know how it all works out.

I got an email from VVCG yesterday saying the 17 Mach IV barrel is ready to ship Monday. Now we will see what a real barrel will do.

Jules,

Hey, I got that 3X-12X Burris LER nickel scope from Bear Basin. Now that is the one that lists for $579.00 and Bear Basin had it for $309.00. Man - you just can't beat that price. And believe me - it is beautiful!!.

The situation isn't so rosy with the Virgin Valley barrel though. I'll make a post on it when we get the details worked out.

Don,
That's a great price on the scope. What reticle did you get on the 3x12.
I'll be in the market for a scope before long. And that looks like a nice one.

Both Ernie (XPhunter) + i are using the 3-12X Burris scopes with the ballistic plex reticle and target turrets installed on the heavier kicking LR outfits. I'll never go with another scope without some form of additional reference system built into the scope for LR shooting.

Bob,

I got the standard plex reticle, and that seems to work quite well for me. I haven't checked it to see what the size of the cross-hairs are, but it looks like half minute.

This scope looks very good to me and has a very clear, sharp focus.

When you are ready to order optical stuff it would be a good idea to check out this company - Bear Basin, because their prices are very good and they have optics from a lot of companys. The URL is noted above in Jules' post.

Well Guys,

That custom barrel just plain didn't pass muster so I'm back to square one and looking for a custom smith who can meet specifications. So now I have a great looking scope just waiting to mount up on the right barrel Any suggestions?

Anyone contemplating buying a custom barrel might be well served to send me an email.

I have one OTT barrel so far & am very satisfied with it. I also have a full length 280AI barrel on order with him. It has been my experience that Mike(MBMCO) will go out of his way to make something to your specs. It might be what you are looking for. He seems to be good in the 17 calibers as well. [Big Grin]
