I have been considering another 6mm Contender Barrel. I found a 6mm JDJ#2 but I know nothing about the 6mm JDJ #2 except that it is bases in a necked up improved .225 Winchester Case. How does it's ballistics / velocities compair to the 6mm-223 or 6mm T/CU? What are the preferred powders for the 6mm JDJ#2? I have always had a soft spot for 6mm Bore Handguns / Cartridges. Will this cartridge push a 80 / 85gr. Bullet at 2800 FPS? Does this cartridge really offer that much more than the 6mm-223 or 6mm T/CU? Lastly the barrel is a 14" Stainless-Steel SSK listed as NEW. It comes with a T'SOB Scope Base (no Rings) and set of dies. The asking price is $395.00 shipped. Not really sure if I want to invest that much in a Barrel, Scope Base and Dies or not. Tell me what you think of this cartridge. Thanks SD Handgunner

SD, is this barrel from Ron Sable of Ron's TC's? If it is, I can give a little extra info on it. No detractions what so ever, so don't worry about that. Jeff

Yep Jeff it is. I talked to Ron this morning, but still can not make up my mind if I want to spend that much for a barrel right now. I also phoned SSK Industries and was told about the max velocity for a 80gr. Bullet out of the 6mm JDJ #2 is going to be 2500 to 2600 FPS. If that is the case, I obtained more than that out of my 15" VVCG 6mm T/CU (which I should have never sold). Any and all info would be appreciated. SD Handgunner

I think someone at SSK had their info crossed. This cartridge will approach 2800 fps with an 80 grain bullet, although I've had a barrel that would not do more than 2650-2675 fps (though that was a slow barrel, I might add.) The 6-.223 will do 2700+, and in a good 14-15" barrel will approach 2800 fps. The 6mm TCU will better that by perhaps 25-50 fps at the most. If the info wasn't from JD himself, it was probably just someone looking at load data that John Doe submitted -- and we all know that's often not the best. In fact, SSK once sent me info showing Re-7 as the primary powder for the 6.5 JDJ -- go figure...

Thanks Bobby. I am getting more interested in this barrel all the time. I think I may have to see if I can swing getting it. SD Handgunner

Considering it's a stainless barrel & has the extras, that's really not a bad price -- not great, but not bad, either. If you don't like it, you can always piece it out and get your money back. Last week, I had e-mailed SSK to see if they had any 24 inch or longer Contender barrels that were ready-to-go. They didn't, so I then checked the prices on new SS. I'll just say that prices have changed a bit since the last time I ordered a new barrel from Jones. Of course, the quality is always first-rate...

Larry, the initial info you were give may have been for the original 6JDJ which was based on the unadulterated 225 Win. case. The reamer came in wrong to SSK, I'm told. When they got the right reamer, it was changed to #2 with the blown out 225 case, just like the 6.5 is. Go for I say. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Thanks for all the info guys. If I can swing it I may buy this barrel. I really do have a soft spot for 6mm Handguns. SD Handgunner
