Ken..there are several indoor pistol ranges in the area and two outdoor pistol/rifle ranges that I know of. One is run by the country at their Penal Farm on Walnut Grove Rd.and another is on the north side of town.

Isn't the "new" TWRA indoor range near Bartlett. Welcome to the three states of TN. State is different as you cross it with most anything one would want found somewhere in the state. More easily accessible deer hunting in the state. Serious duck and goose hunting close to the Mississippi. LouisB

Ken, I now live in OH - moved from the Memphis area two years ago. There is a public range on Walnut Grove, about a mile from I-240. They have a 50 yard side and a 100 yard side - the short side has target holders at 50 feet, 25 yards and 50 yards. The long side has target holders at 25, 50 and 100 yards. Last time I was there, it cost $6. They supply paper targets and holders. Pretty nice setup, except absolutely no rapid fire. It's the safest range I have ever been on - tightly controlled access to guns while the line is clear (although I personally saw a woman get shot accidentally while I was there). In Millington, a little north of Memphis, there is an indoor range named "Top Brass". It's owned and run by top notch folks - Corky and Lawrence Dobbins. I used to shoot USPSA there. If you can fork over about $400 per year, there is a club in Brownsville - 30 min east of Memphis. I belive it's called Memphis Sports Shooters Association. By the way, where are you going to work there?

Thanks for the input on ranges in the area. I checked the Web site out and my carry permit from Texas is honored in TN... I did have questions on hunting as here in Texas most hunting is done on a Lease and they are out of price for most of us now. TX does have a Type 2 permit that gets you onto State Managed property bur most of it is WAY over in East Texas. If all goes well I may be rejoining the company I was with for 8 years. I'll post more details once the interview is over.... All input on the area is appreciated. Thanks, Future KENTN

Move east and change that TX to TN. LouisB Some changes in your hunting style will happen and I do not think we can come close to any western state for quail and dove hunting, but deer and turkey will be easier and cheaper if you shop around for a lease or hunt on State WMAs. I think W TN duck hunting will be superior to much of the nation, but since I no longer duck hunt I'm not sure. LouisB

My 90 lb Black Lab is jumping up and down at the thought of Duck hunting. Only problem on the TX Coast when Duck Hunting is Gators gettin the Dog if it is still warm outside....Funny how you start Huntin Gators after they get your Dog!!! I have hunted WMA's in TX but they are mostly in East TX and a long way from Austin 250+ miles. I do enjoy varmit hunting and hope to find some in TN. My Dad has some wooded property in the Birmingham area that I understand one of my Cousins has a blind built on it. Might have to go check it out! My daughter is a Competitive shooter in the 4H Shooting Sports Program and I hope we can find her a group to shoot with up there.
