I have the Opportunity to buy a Pachmayr Dominator with a 1911A1 frmae and Burris scope, the problem is that it's not in a caliber I like.
Can these be rebarreled? It's in .35 Rem now, I'd like to switch to .223 Rem. Anybody know if this is possible? I was looking at barrel blanks in brownelles and they have Shilen pistol barrels in .223. would that work? Any info would be a great help. Thank You very Much.

Mike,

This is the only info I could find on it:

I would imagine if the barrel screws into the action/breech assembly, chances are it can be replaced.

You may be getting into something that from a cost standpoint might not be worth getting into. This was basically a unit that was fitted to any standard 1911 frame. Without the barrel, there isn't much left to it as far as the unit itself.

It goes without saying that you are also dealing with an item that is no longer made which will mean very limited to no availability of parts should something happen down the road.

Lyman took over Pachmayr so that avenue may not be there anymore either.

Springfield Armory had a unit very similar to this also, called the SASS or something like that.

Really a neat concept actually.
