Stumbled across your board today and was pleasently surprised that there was a forum for single shot pistols. I've always wanted a Contender, but other things always got in the way. But a few months ago I traded my S&W 22A in on a Savage 501, and it rekindled my interest in unique handguns. I get a bonus every 6 months, and I've decided to take the plunge. It took some looking, but I finally located a Contender with a .357mag 10'' bull barrel for $300. Nothing fancy, but a nice platform to start with. Can't wait for Friday to get here.

Well if you fall into the Contender rut you will soon need a new barrel and then next thing you know you will have more barrels then you will know what to do with it's a Contender thing. Most people get it just after they buy a Contender. I know I have 3 frames and 15 Barrels. Welcome to the forum
Well from one Okie to another, Welcome aboard. I used to live in Midwest City many years ago. I'm also gladthat i don't live that close to Ed he cost me enough the way it is. Seems like every time I see him I buy another barrel.
John, I know you will enjoy it. I shot a Contender in 1982. Couldn't afford one then. I finally got my first last July. Now I have four frames and 6 barrels and always looking. 2-7-30 Waters, 1- 45-70, 1- 309JDJ, 2-.223's, (14" & 21") and looking for a 6mm. I took three deer with my Contenders last fall and now I'm shooting coyotes and prairie dogs with them. Reload for all of them and can't get enough of shooting them. You will be getting into something that you can't get enough of. I shoot at least once a week. You will learn alot on this site. Another Okie..

Welcome to the board! I used to live in Newcastle and was a member at Tri-City Gun Club (In Norman) while I was there. Now I'm back in my home state of Kansas.

Tri City Gun Club in Norman, OK is definately the place to join and shoot. I was a memeber of OKC Gun Club in Arcadia but it's an hour's drive now that I live in Norman. Tri City Gun Club is 10 min. across the river. 200 yard range with nice facilities. Hey XPHunter, where do you live. I bow hunt around Great Bend, and Sterling KS and sometimes around Wakenney, up by Hays. I pheasant hunt around Glen Elder and Saux City.

Friday's gettin' close, and I'm ready. I've got 150 of my handloaded .357's boxed up, targets printed, and a NC Star 2X scope that just may self destruct on the first shot. Can't wait to actually work up a good load for it. Already looking at a few barrels, a 10inch .223, a 10 inch 30-30, and a 14 inch .35 rem. Can't afford them all, but I may be able to swing one after The Wife is finished with the rest of my bonus.
XPHUNTER, I grew up in Blanchard, just a stone's throw away from Newcastle, and man how we used to throw stones.

Damn, I didn't know there were so many Okies on this board. I have lived in Tulsa for 50 years. Does the gun club in Norman have a pistol silhouette range? I am a member of Oil Capitol Rod and Gun Club in Coweta, but they don't have any silhouettes except for small bore.

I've been to the one at Tri-city, it's easier for me to just go down I-40 and go to the range out at el reno. Kinda informal, but they have everything out to 100yrds. And it's only 6 bucks a person

Be sure to Watchout for Meat Plate. He is a mean person. Also watch out for the Elite Traditional Handgun Police. They will correct you if you use a Pifle or a Ristol.
I'm like you I did'nt know there were so many of us Okies on this board. If you guy's get up around Tulsa, myself and a couple of my hunting and shooting buddies shoot quite a bit at Happy Hollow shooting range in Sapulpa. It's a great little range with covered shooting bench's and a A/C proshop and snack area. Cost $7 to shoot all day and they furnish targets. You can shoot out to 200 yards.

Mike, I live in Hutchinson now. The Central Gun Club just North of town has a range that goes out to 600 yards. That has really been nice to give me some practice at extended ranges before I go to Bower's Long Range Handgun Clinic about a month from now where we will begin shooting @ 500 meters. There is still room for more students if anyone is interested. Ernie

Went down afterwork yesterday morning and picked up my new Contender. And she's everything I dreamed she'd be. She came with a walnut forearm and a Pachmyer rubber grip, so I stopped by a local shop and bought a walnut grip for her. Then found out I need a different bolt for the walnut grip. Took it to the range and managed 3 inch 5 shot groups at 50yrds with cheapo Blaser ammo. Add to that the fact that by that time I'd been up for 22 hours straight and it's pretty impressive. Stopped back by the gunshop on the way home to talk to the smith about a scope mount, and also picked up the Pachmyer forearm to match the grip. Wood is classy, but the lady looks sexy in black. Got her home and mounted my old T/C 4X scope off of my mauser on her. Means I have to go back to the range now to sight her in again. Dang, I hate when that happens. Got me some 158gr SWC to start working up loads too. Ain't love grand.
