Guys, I have ordered some of the 150 gr .357 bullets from Paul Dustin for my 357 Max. Question is: do I load those with a crimp or like a bottle neck cartridge? Thanks

Are you shooting the Max in a Contender or a revolver? In the TC, I've not used much of a crimp......in a wheelgun though, I have made use of a slight taper crimp.

HI Verno I will let you know in a week or so I just oredr a 10" 357 Max BBL and do still have some 150gr bullet left. When I get the BBL I will be doing some load testing. I will try it with a crimp and without crimp. will let you know how it works out. Hope to get around 2000fps with them

The Rem. 150's have a a very short bearing length so you won't be able to seat them out into the rifling unless you have a Max with a custom chamber. I'd probably crimp them instead to aid ignition especially with the ball powders like 296/H110.

If you are using H110/296, crimp it!! I've used with great results in my carbine barrel, but if left uncrimped the velocities and groups vary much more when not crimped. I never thought a bullet with such a short bearing surface would shoot as good as they do.

I agree with Headstamp and graycg, to obtain any consistancy you need at least a moderate crimp, especillay with W296 and H110.

The little 150gr projectile seems to me that it may not be as stable as the 180 - 200gr. projectiles, so I have stayed away from the 158gr. or less category.

I shoot a 10" Fox Ridge Outfitters on an Encore, and have to say it again, it is very accurate. [Smile]

Paul that is really zinging along for a 10" barrel
And very accurate also.
Is this a Factory barrel?
Or a HOT ROD custom job?

Verno I have worked up my last load with the Remington 150gr 35 Cal bullet for my 357 Max here it is Vihtavuori N-110 22.6gr CCI-400 primer 2.205 OAL with a lite crimp out of a 10" Contender BBL 1979fps this is a 10 shot avg. There is no signs of presser at the web of the case and I can group a little over 5/8" at 100yds off a rest and a 2x6 Bushnell scope
