After carrying Legally Concealed for over 35 years I offer the following...

For the Minimal, most reliable, a S&W 5 shot 2" revolver is hard to beat...

Esecially if carried in a front pocket holster...

IF you can carry a "holster" gun, then a 1911 Light Weight Commander in 45 ACP gives you the most ergonomic, most powerful, most controlable, most easilly carried [in a Summer Special holster], quickest reloaded, hand gun on the planet.

IMHO of course.


IF you are REALLY serious about you safety, then you carry both... ALL the time...

I agree and I have carried a number of different ones--both in and out of the courtroom.

I finally ended up with a S&W Airlite five shot .357 with Crimson Trace laser grip sights. Stout recoil with the .357, but not bad at all training with .38.

It fits in any pocket and is there all the time. Really a pleasure to carry.

But, of course, different strokes for different folks.

However under a Judges Robe I would think that you could hide several BIG handguns...


And knowing the kind of people you see in your Court room, you might need them...

There is a Judge in Jacksonville, Judge Merritt, who not too long ago had some kind of altercation in his court room. He pulled out his own gun and it made the news. You can Google it probably. I have met him. Interesting guy.

Many years ago when I served on the bench I wanted to use a Colt single action as a gavel. It was frowned upon.....

I have unfortunately never seen a LW Commander for sale in France. It is however possible to purchase the S&W 1911 Scandium framed Commander sized clone. It is also a good pistol.

I must be built weird, both the Commander and Officer Model tweak some nerve cluster in my backside when I carry IWB. The full size 1911 doesn't so I find it more comfortable to carry even if it weighs a bit more.

I can't get cozy with one of the little .38 revolvers because I can't take ME seriously carrying one. Not that I think you're less deadly, but it looks silly on me.

I do like my 325NG and I bet a look at business end of it would make most bad guys crap their pants.

Had my smith model 36 5 shot rebarreled way back in 72 with a heavy, 3 inch barrel. It's been my most comfortable and therefore primary backup and or carry gun ever since. IWB, against my stomach, between my belly button and my right hip bone, depending on clothing and environment.

Just in terms of easy to carry ... I like the HK P7M8 ... small, flat, short, well rounded corners.

9mm beats nothing in the summer.

There are some companies that make a Lightweight Government Model....

Taurus, Kel-Tek, Kahr, Walther and some others are making 9mm in polymer which are light, slim, and potent.

I have a Smith, J-Frame snub, Mod. 60. It's heavy has hell and pulls on the coat pocket. Works fine on a belt, IWB or outside.

No 1911 made (Some are close.) that is "easy to carry concealed" -- unless you're wearing a winter Mackinaw.
