I have a pair of Remington 870's that are kept within 'quick gettin' distance on each level of my home. I want to mount a flashlight on the forward portion of the magazine tube. Need some adult supervision from someone who has a proven set-up. My ideal mount will be simple, reasonably light, and rugged. I don't need a quad rail or any hoakey/bulky set up. So who out there has done this and what worked well! Pics will be a plus

Since one day your, and your famly members LIVES might depend on the light on your shotguns, I recommend the SureFire Forend lights. After all, how much are these Lives worth??? DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY

Anyone try/see the EOTech version? Less expensive, I've heard that Surefire brought their price down since the EOTech light came out. I have the same, very simple set-up shown in the pic posted by fl3006 on my Ithaca 37 M&P. Only difference is that the light is slightly offset (in my case..it's to the right. I'm left-handed) to be more readily available to activate the button on the back of the light with my "weak-hand" thumb when the slide is forward. Works fine in drills and holds up to recoil in multiple shot rapid fire situations with no issues.

A small area gunshop had a used (with box) Surefire forend light and sold it to me for $40 installed on my 870 with an extended magazine. It's an older 3v version. Not terribly bright but adequate and certainly an improvement over what I had (nothing). Don't know if I can upgrade the bulb or something to enhance it. On my other 870 I think I'm going to go with a simple barrel clamp like pictured/discussed on this thread.

Matt, you can buy an upgraded LED head for that. Very expensive. The new line of surefire Shotgun foreends is coming out in June. Look for a large price drop 30-60 days prior to that on the old line that was 100 watt. The new one will be switcheable 250/500 watts. I will be buying a 318LM 100 watt, as soon as the prices start to drop. Before Hurricane season starts. Cold Zero

My problem with a light (even a laser) on a gun is that it; 1. is a great target and 2. lets the perp know you are coming before you can see him (her/them). I like the element of surprise on my side and I practice with my shotgun under all kinds of conditions. I would rather catch the perp and hold him for police than force a confrontation or allow him (her/them) to escape to harm others. There are times that a tactical light may be adventagious but for me, in my home, that is not one of them. Speer, Sierra, Lyman, Hornady, Hodgdon have reliable reloading data. You won't find it on so and so's web page.

I'm going to go with a flashlight, as big/bright as I can make work. And I'm already apparently a target to the bad guy and he will know I'm there. And being 'stealthy' just isn't going to work for me if somebody tries to enter my house with me inside and they aren't invited. I can't wake up from a sound sleep and go into fighting mode quietly. Nor am I going to practice under all kinds of conditions as most likely if it's dark I'm probably in bed naked. I ain't practicing shooting being butt naked. If I have to deploy one of the shotguns this thread is about, that means somebody is in or trying to get into my house and we are into DefCon 4. And my dog ain't going to be stealthy as he had better be earning his food bowl by barking the 'danger close' alarm very vigourously (or face replacement and he knows he's got it pretty good here). And I WANT the intruder to know I'm there, that I'm coming, and no doubt as to how seriously I'm about to get. Wife knows the drill; her priority job is to get on the phone and make notifications (911). And as we all know; when seconds count the police are just minutes away.
