Meet the detective:

Police officer shoots self in hand at his South Jeffco home

quote:
Starnes tested the second gun in his master bathroom, “dry-firing” it without ammunition, the report states. He later loaded a 17-round magazine into the gun but said he forgot it contained live rounds when he pulled the trigger again, hitting his left hand. The bullet apparently went through a bathroom mirror but did not go through the wall.

Even if I were tempted to "dry-fire" a handgun while sitting on the can, which frankly has never crossed my mind, what's the deal with having your off hand in front of the muzzle?

As an aside, it appears the good detective neglected to tell the reporter that before "forgetting" the mag contained live ammo he racked the slide. And the reporter, not knowing anything about guns, didn't know to ask how, considering the officer's story is that he had been successfully dry-firing the gun earlier without a discharge, he managed to chamber a round.

In My state they gave the cops 40s&w glocks replacing S&W revolvers (model 10`s I think)
And some of the horror storys i have heard from some of cops that shoot at the rifle range.
Negulant discharges,poor training etc.

But now they have taken the shotguns off them and if they need any more fire power than the glock they have to wait for the men in black.

A couple of years back we had a few prison officers come to use to learn how to shoot rifles properly as they were not getting very much training.
These people are keeping us safe, God help us

Another brilliant Denver Cop.
Well, it wasn't a Glock, and at least this guy didn't injure one of his kids.

CFS, I'm with you. I can't for the life of me figure out how he chambered a round, and put it throught his hand, and the bathroom mirror?

I knew the probation officer of a guy who accidentally launched a torpedo in port.

Well, "launched" isn't the right word. It didn't go anywhere except the bottom of the harbor.

When he sobered up he felt really bad about it, but Uncle Sugar wasn't in a forgiving mood.

Point being, I still don't know how drunk you have to be to shoot yourself in the hand. But I know how drunk you have to be to accidentally launch a torpedo.
