I currently use a G. Wm Davis model 455 "Security" iwb holster that I bought 25 years ago when I lived in Houston TX. It has faithfully carried a bunch of 1911s over the years but now it is looking a bit worn.
Any suggestion as to make and or material for a replacement to last for the next 25 years? Smiler

Rick,

Leather IWB: Milt Sparks or Galco.

Kydex IWB: Fist, Blade-Tech.

Combined leather and Kydex: Tucker Gun Leather and Hoffners.

There are a lot of good holster makers right now and the internet is wonderful for shopping!

Best,

Paul

What about the Super Tuck from Crossbreed Holsters. I don't have one but am thinking of getting one for my Taurus.

Andrews Custom Leather. I have several of their holsters, including four different IWB's. Normally carry a Commander in one. They're a small Florida company who does great work and are really good guys. Google them.

Got a nice one by Matt DelFatty (sp) and another by comp-tac. Both very comfortable but the Delfatty is a work of art.

Thanks for the ideas, you guys have given me ideas, ideas that will keep me in trouble with the wife hilbily

Vanderhoef,
DelFatti must be good, he's not accepting orders and his website says he's filling orders from May 2007!

Is anyone using a kydex iwb? I'm wondering if they're comfortable.

Rick-

I found my delfatti holster at URL=www.lightningarms.com][/URL]. He allocates a certain amount to them and they usually have some in stock depending on which pistol you need one for.
Like mine alot.

I'd look long and hard for a Milt Sparks also---the standard by which all others are judged, I believe.

As for kydex,I have a comp-tac that is very comfortable. It's actually a "shirt tuckable" model that is also adjustable for cant. I wear it more in the summer next to my skin as it doesn't sweat like leather will and with a golf shirt or polo tucked in you can't tell I'm carrying my 1911.

Regards,
Scott

I like the High Noon brand of milt sparks summer special - they call it a "Down Under"High Noon Down Under

I've got them for a Sig-Sauer P220 Stainless Elite and a full-size 1911. Work great with a good belt.

For my Kahr PM-9, you can actually use a "tuckable" IWB holster - like the "Bare Asset" - I really like this one. http://www.highnoonholsters.co...sset/bare_asset.html

Dillon sells a couple of IWB's that are inexpensive and work very well. They are Maverick Holsters, imported from South Africa. I have been using one for my PPK for a while with good results. Check it out in The Blue Press.

When I was carrying, I used either Horseshoe Leather IWB or an old Milt Sparks Summer special for my Browning GP35.
When not carrying concealed, a Mad Dog Kydex Yaqui slide did brilliantly well for my G-17

The last holster I used extensively was a Safariland IWB for a S&W mod 13 4".

All of them were OK, but doubtless there is better stuff available now.

Best of luck with your choice.

Cheers, Dave.

Best money I ever spent on an IWB is HORSE-HIDE, in a Kramer for a Kahr MK2.

Horse-hide is stiffer, harder, fits/retains better than cowhide.

I've seen pictures of horsehide holsters, good looking leather there. I'll keep them in mind.

I use the C-Tac made by Comp Tac. Pretty comfortable for everyday wear. Move your waist size of your trousers up one notch however.

I coughed up $100 for a Kramer in HORSEHIDE. It's stiffer, more durable than cowhide.

This was maybe, probably a decade ago. I expect they're more $$$ now.

I have since purchased some horsehide mag pouches, and a cylinder pouch for a BP revolver.

Horsehide seems worth the extra money.
