I just picked up a ultra carry II and it has standard sights that I would like to change out to a 'good' set of night sights.....

I have found a few out there but, would like a little helping input on a set please????

Kimber uses Meprolights (would have had to wait to get one set up with these, and they wanted more for one with them installed than me buying a set and installing them..) I like the "tactical wedge" set better than the "slant" set....at least in the photo.

Trijicon "bright and tough" look pretty good too...

XS has the "24/7 express sights" but it more of a dot the i style rather than the 3 dot....not sure that's a bad thing though

????? others ?????

What are you folks using? If you had to do it again, would you? What problems do you find with any of the above? etc...etc...etc...

Thanks!!!! Wink

I use Meprolight for 16 years, the set installed on my SW 629 still works after all these years. Only a bit weaker.

Trijicon!
On my second set on by duty gun, didn't even think about it.

Hello.

Trijicon, Meprolight and Truglo make sights for the Kimber now. I like the Truglo Brightsite TRO which has both fiberoptic and tritium for day and night which help 50 year old eyes see the front sight.

Best,

The Meprolights are too bright and can be a target indicator.

I like the Trijicons and they certainly last. I think they have a 10 year warranty anyway.

I prefer an all black rear.

I put the XS Big Dot sights on my CZ75 (in 40 S&W) and in the end found that they were just as accurate with faster sight acquisition up to 15 meters than standard sights. On a small short barreled pistol used for personal defense I think they are superior. However, I used the same pistol on a fun shoot with targets out to 25 meters and beyond and there they fail, as compared to standard sights. So, it depends on what use you foresee. For a short-barreled carry pistol I think the Big Dots are great.

Crimson Trace -- put a dot on the target and don't waste your time trying to line up glowing dots on the gun.

Laser has a really chilling effect on the target too. Nothing like a red dot on your chest to make you cooperative.

For close range, need to get on target fast, the XS big dot is the way to go. If you ever have somebody coming at you in a low light situation, having that big sphere glowing on the front of the barrel is definitely a quicker acquisition than three dots the same size with the back two glowing brighter than the front. I know that as long as I get the front sight on center mass, the bullet will get where it needs to go, and for me the XS sight just allows me to get there quicker.

For my carry guns, I go with XS Big Dots. I just attended a handgun training class with a nationally known group. The instructor was a post and notch sort of guy due to them "being more accurate" at distancee. He shot 5 head shots at a paper target that had a silhouette of a "perp" on it placed at around 22 yds. All 5 hit the head. Then I was challenged to do the same with my Big Dots using practice ammo, that had a different point of impact than my carry ammo. The intent was to show how the Big Dots were not good enough. 5 shots later, all of mine were in the head, too.

Even if one doesn't use the sights in a close quarters engagement, you can still see that big white ball out of the corner of your eye to help index the gun easier than all black post/notch, IMO. YMMV.
