Eland SlayerWelcome to Texas.....
This might sound strange.....but I was getting ready for bed the other night and I took off my jeans and tossed them on the bed for a second. This is exactly the way they fell, and I just had to take a picture (obviously I took the pistol and knife out for the 2nd pic).
I am so thankful to live in a state where we are allowed to protect ourselves by the use of a concealed handgun. God Bless Texas!!

Well, forgive me, but why is your gun not a 1911 carried cocked and lock with a round in the chamber? Everyone knows this is the finest firearm that ever was, and ever will be made?!!! Especially in Texas!

Haha.....I agree with you that a 1911 is one of the finest firearms ever made. I started out carrying one, but have switched exclusively to a revolver for concealed carry. This little beauty only weighs 13 ounces.....good luck finding a 1911 that light
For the record.....I do open carry my Ed Brown full-size 1911 at home.....
Interesting -- In this state IWB is considered "open carry" and is entirely legal with the exception of a few specific anal municipalities.
The constabulary here observes "The Mackinaw Law" -- that if the gun is "openly carried on the belt in a holster" it's not considered "concealed" if covered with a jacket, vest, sweater, etc.
Unless it's 101 F outside, you're wearing a ski parka and otherwise being a jerk.
Automatic knives are legal too -- openly carried.
That's got to be absolutely the finest cell-phone caddy on the planet!

No problem.....there are several reasons.
First of all, the 1911 is obviously much heavier. Even the lightweight model I was carrying was 25 ounces.....roughly double what this M&P360 is.
Second of all, I am not a very big guy. I'm 5'10" and 180 lbs with a 32 inch waist. The 1911 is much more difficult to conceal effectively for me.
Lastly, and most importantly to me, the method in which I carry (IWB under a cotton shirt either tucked or untucked) lends itself to getting lots of "lint" and cotton fibers in the gun. I don't have time to clean an automatic every day just to carry concealed, and I was concerned that it may cause a malfunction when I most needed the gun to save my life.
.....that is the main reason I switched to a revolver. I never have to worry about a jam or malfunction. Plus, the gun is so light and easy to conceal, I forget I even have it on me most of the time. I carry this gun EVERY day.
I still think 1911's are the most awesome handgun in the whole damn world.....I'm just not going to carry one concealed again.
Hope that answers your question.

DuggaBoyeGood reasons.
I have alternated between both semi's and wheels.
Alloy 3" 1911's, Scandium S&W's, Kahr's, Rohrbaughs, etc--
all have there own caveats--
Thanks for your candid response.

I share your appreciation for living in a place that enables you to exercise your freedom. I know Texas to be a fine place. I'm calling BS on the the photos. They look staged to me. Lighting, shadows, focus, composition, cropping, all look just a little too good to be happenstance. But if you say so, I'll take your word.

I promise on my grandpa's grave the photos were not staged. The first picture shows exactly how they were when I set them down (hence why I felt the need to take a picture). The "lighting" you are referring to is just the lamp on my nightstand next to the bed. The pictures were not cropped, but I did take them with a decent Canon PowerShot 10mp camera.....so maybe that has a little to do with the quality.

RVL IIIDon't get overly confident that dirt, dust etc will not get inside that revolver! I'd still clean it at least once a month, especially carried IWB.
Just remember, any gun can shoot clean...only a real gun (1911) can shoot dirty!

Grizzly AdamsWith all your liberal handgun and carry laws, please explain this to me. Was in Ft. Worth, a couple of years ago and always thought Texas was a pretty open place, but I was puzzled by an abundance of signs, outside public places, like restaurants, that stated there was a 10,000. fine for having a gun inside.

tiggertateOriginally the CC law prohibited carrying anywhere alcohol was sold for consumption on site. I don't know if that still holds in all cases. I know for a fact a lot of anti-gun places put up similar signs even though not true for that location.

lavaca3 types of signs.
30.06 -- any premises owner can ban carry on his or her premises. Sign must follow prescribed language, meet certain criteria etc. If sign is properly posted, can't carry there.
51% rule - if sale of alcohol (with consumption on site) generates more than 50% of revenue -- you see 51% sign. One of two. Small sign or the standard 30.06 language, but either way it will have 51% in red letters 5" high. If posted, can't carry there.
Third type is generally seen in liquor stores and convenience stores that sell alcohol. Can't carry unlicensed (you can't anyway), but still can carry with CHL. No consumption on site.
At least that's my understanding.

jeffeosso51% of revenue comes from booze to make it illegal to carry there.
the $10k fine is ACTAULLY a bluff sign.. by owners that don't really want CC there, but don't sell that much booze, so at casual reading, it READS like its illegal to carry there... when one reads the print, it says illegal to carry UNLICENSED ... which is true, everywhere but your home, from most people. The sign is like a sign, right past a speed limit sign that says "and if you speed, you'll get a fine"
Actually, TABC requires the 51% signs...it is the law for any place with a liquor license, even a beer and wine version. Any and all establishments that sell any alcoholic beverages MUST by law put up one of the 2 signs where they are visible BEFORE one steps foot inside the door (this is often ignored or improperly posted). Either they post the 'blue sign' when they earn less than 51% of their total gross revenue from alcohol sales, and then carry by CHL is LEGAL, OR they put up the red 51% sign when their sales are 51%+ alcohol sales and carry by CHL is NOT legal.
The 30.06 sign is completely separate from the 51% signs and not linked to alcohol sales. This is the voluntary (and only written) method, spelled out in Texas law 30.06, whereby a business owner can specifically forbid carry under CHL on their premises.
Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense.

I think you mis-read the sign.
It is a $10,000 fine for the un-licensed posession of a firearm in that establishment.
I will go to the DPS's website and copy the posting exactly.
A "illegal to carry on premises" will have a red 51% overshadowing the the 1" block letters.
And as Lavaca stated, there is also the "Can't carry no matter what" sign which is the owner's perrogative.
