Houston barbecue joint offers open carry discount
Houston Business Journal ^ | Jan 4, 2016 | Olivia Pulsinelli

Before Texas' open carry law went into effect on Jan. 1, several businesses disclosed they would ban firearms on their private property. Now, one Houston-area eatery is making news by rewarding customers for carrying their guns.

According to several media reports, Brooks' Place will give customers a 25 percent discount for openly carrying a gun. Previously, the Cypress-area barbecue trailer offered a 10 percent discount for concealed carry.

I would think any criminal that would consider trying to rob a joint where a half dozen people were there carrying firearms in plain sight, would IMO be a complete idiot!

Most multiple victim shootings are in GUN FREE ZONES! That fact alone should tell people something. A sign that states "THIS IS A GUN FREE ZONE" is an invitation to do what ever one wants with very little risk to himself! Any idiot can shoot unarmed people at will. When there are people there who can shoot back, is a zebra of a different stripe!

Excuse me, but when I was in Dallas in 2006, every restaurant seemed to have a sign claiming a 10,000. fine for bringing a firearm on the premises. Confused

Grizz

I bet they said an unlicensed firearm.

When I was down there I saw the same signs if one didn't read closely it was easy to miss the unlicensed part.

Grizz, it is quite evident you did not read the wording on those signs! The only signs I see at the entrance of restaurants are quoting the fine and illegality for entering the premises with an UNLICENSED FIREARM. To disallow all firearms the place must display a TX 30-06 signage in both Spanish and English, with the legal wording and size for the sign. Most restaurants chose to allow licensed concealed firearms but not unlicensed firearms, hence the signs you were seeing.

The LAWs have changed since you were here in Texas. When you were here the only legal handgun was a licensed concealed handgun. Today the law is that if a person has a CHL license he is also allowed to carry open.

Now a place of business can opt out of allowing open carry in there premises, but they must display a TX30-07 signage at every entrance stating that fact. If they want to disallow all firearms then they must display both the TX 30-07 sign to disallow open carry, and the Tx 30-06 sign to disallow concealed carry as well.

The TX 30-07 sign disallows all open carry which includes rifles and shotguns as well, but has no effect on concealed carry. It has always been legal to open carry rifles, and shotguns in Texas now the law includes handguns as well, but only with a concealed carry license.

Now when a person's CHL (concealed handgun license) expires the new issue will be LTC (Licensed TO CARRY) license. That license allows the person to carry open or concealed.

To get a license to carry a concealed handgun one must stand a background check from both Texas, and the FBI as well, and do classes on the Texas Penal code and qualify in handgun handling. If there is anything illegal in a person's background no matter how old he will not get a license to carry in Texas.

.................I hope that is at least a clear as Texas muddy water!
