Lately I have started carrying a mod. 97 in 45 long Colt. It hangs good and has a punchy feel to it. I figure 5 45,s will get me started. I have carried many pistols over the years mod. 60 S&W,Sig.229 357 Sig,Para Ord CCW .45,S&W 1086 IN 10MM, that I like the best after the 97.The bad thing about all of them is you have to hide them like a thief insted of wearing them on the outside like a free honest man

cato

I just never could get into carrying a single action for personal protection, Elmer Keith not withstanding.

I can "get by" with a 44 Mag S&W, and Speed Loaders, or a S&W Mod 25 in 45 ACP, I have used both as work guns, but in truth I prefer a 1911 in 45 ACP...

Why??? Because there might be more than 5 bad guys... shocker

I will say that the FA 97 is a most excellent revolver.

To slow to reload.

Sam I would agree with you if I were in a shootin' war, but around here all you have to deal with is two or three. I shoot more sick cows and coyotes than anything. I figure if I get five the rest will run. If they don't at least I died with my boots on.

I won't argue it's a good gun and load and meets your needs. You have the other ones and know when to take what you need. I'll admit to carrying my 9x18 Makarov with the same slow to reload complaint. I know it's only a hair better than a .380 but easy to carry in a coat pocket.

I'm picturing that big stainless revolver in a Buscadero rig.

Hello Catosilvaje,

Is your Model 97 pre or post the 2007 suit... no transfer bar or transfer bar? for carrying one under the hammer with 5 rounds.

http://trib.com/news/state-and...9a-2b2e4397f72b.html

http://www.freedomarms.com/ as now the Model 97's come with a transfer bar and are safe to carry with 5 rounds in the 5 round cylinder.

Nice guns, regardless!

Best,

For what's going on here I pretty much use a Smith 629 in 44 mag. 4" bbl. in a "western style" duty holster (oil tanned, hammer strap, fold over flap secures on the belt). It's "punchy" too, six rounds. And I have a couple speed loaders, a swing out gate.
