Hard to beat a 1911 but not allowed in Mexico unless your a member of the Mexican military. Lot of the locals carry 38 Supers and a few are privileged to pack 45 based on "mordida", familia, or compadre! Big Grin

450,
The KAHR is a very interesting pistol clean lines, Handles right, perfect size, I shot one about 50 rounds, and priced righgt, It was really impressive, were I still an Agent Id and 50 years younger, Id pounce on one.

I always wanted a PPK 380 with a silencer but too much ATF red tape..

Ray,

The red tape is almost gone.

Approvals are taking about. Week these days.

Some as little as 2 days and even the fingerprints are now electronic.

Amazing, some posts refer to hearing protection in a combat situation, Id be more concerned
about my hearing prior to any shooting and the least concerned about noise during the battle..Leave the head phones for the target range!!

The Marines like suppressor's

The US Marine Corps began issuing suppressors to front-line infantrymen in 2021, making the Marines the first armed service to do so. The goal of the program is to:
Protect hearing: Reduce the risk of noise-induced hearing loss, which is a common service-connected disability for veterans
Improve communication: Make it easier for fire teams to communicate on the battlefield
Reduce signature: Make it harder for enemies to locate Marines by reducing their audible and visual signature
The Marine Corps began field-testing suppressed M-4 carbines and M-27 Infantry Automatic Rifles in 2016. The Marine Corps' suppressor of choice is the KAC NT-4, which is:

We are talking about electronic hearing devices not just plain jane muffs.

They not only protect ones hearing they allow one to hear better.

p a chance to cuss my SS Bullsheit bulldog, last THROWN in the back of the safe some years ago!

Enhanced hearing with the electronic muffs would be handy, but would be one more thing to keep up with in a "HIGH STRESS" situation.

I never found Charter arms revolvers to be of very high quality. The couple I own had problems.

The others I had contact with had problems.

I agree P-dog. Hi stress wastes timing and action. sitting on your bed table in the middle taking time to slip them on and your not even totally awake, I would be pointing my pistol at the door and be behind the bed, but speaking for myself, Ive found most gunfights are a surprise but not all..

Ray and I have identical backgrounds;

The 38 Super is legal in Mexico and is a pretty good stopper.

People not familiar with law enforcement forget Bill Jordan's work: "No Second Place Winner".
Gun fights and break ins at 3AM are a surprise, and human nature is fragile. Speed is fine but accuracy is final.
Actually, I keep 2 1911 Colt 45s close by, and if push comes to shove-they get used because they
work as designed.

As Bob Hagel said about hunting rifles, use a caliber that works when everything goes wrong.

You are better off with the pistol and caliber one has trained with/ most comfortable with. A Browning HP in 9mm is handy and has HP stopping power, and no need to change magazines as the capacity covers that.
Pushed further into a corner, it would be the 44 Specials big brother, the .45 Colt in my 2 Colt New Service DA pistols with Glaser Safety Slugs as sold by Cor-Bon. Nothing much will get by those in the Colt.

Its all personal preference: but keep in mind its also like an Alaskan grizzly surprise near a creek-
What you have in your hands becomes your "bear gun".

Bottom line is I would not feel uncomfortable with either the 357 o 44 Special (handloaded) and not worried with some of todays hot loaded 380s for that matter, Ive seen a 380 do its work a couple of times. It grew up in the last couple of years. Just pull the trigger more often!! shocker
