Cops: Florida Man With Shovel Wins Gunfight
The incident unfolded early Friday morning in Hudson.
By Sherri Lonon (Patch Staff)
January 9, 2015 at 8:24am

Pasco County deputies aren’t releasing much information about a fight that broke out early Friday morning at the Players’ Club bar in Hudson, but they are saying who won.

“Man takes shovel to gunfight and wins,” was the header on the email sent to media by agency spokesman Kevin Doll at 4:26 a.m. Friday.

Doll said the case is being investigated as an attempted homicide and robbery. It took place at the 18728 U.S. 19 bar sometime in the early morning hours before Doll’s email was sent.

Just how the altercation broke out remains unclear, but Doll said preliminary reports indicate a man in the bar’s parking lot fired several rounds into the victim’s truck. One of those shots struck the victim on the arm, he said.

At that point, the victim got out of his truck, armed himself with a shovel and “began to repeatedly beat the suspect,” Doll wrote.

That suspect, who hasn’t yet been identified by deputies, was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Doll said. The condition of the victim, who also remains unidentified, hasn’t been released as of yet.

Now that's just funny. Imagine going back to your gang and explaining how you got your ass kicked by a guy who didn't even have a gun.

Around these parts, the shovel is often the weapon of choice. Used to beat, maim, kill or cover up. The natives are very fond of the shovel.

If I had a gun and I was in a fight at zero feet against a guy with a shovel, what I would do is..........scratch that. That sounds like a good way to get killed. I would just stay out of that fight.

Guess that's why I keep a shovel (and a couple of machetes, and a hoe, and a swing blade, jack handle, etc. )- in my truck!!!!.

I tried a murder case in which my client was attacked by her boyfriend with a shovel.
She responded with an RG .22 revolver, which doesn't even make a good crab net weight.

I always say "better a 22 when you need it than a .45 that is not with you " or "better half a mag from .22 PPK in target than .45 missing"
