I've had to face the fact that I ain't the young svelt stud I used to be. (the older I get, the better I was...) Once upon a time I could carry a 1911 or SSA on my hip all day. An hour now and my back is killing me.

I bought one of those Uncle Mikes vertical shoulder holster rigs to give a try. I like it. I can carry all day, no pains. And I've enough girth now that a loose shirt covers the rig well without looking like a hip-hop gangsta type wearing clothes two or three sizes to large.

But the position of the gun is such that a quick easy retrevail is not possible. It takes grabbing the exposed grip to draw the gun, then changing your grip to get a proper grasp. Not too bad for a hunting holster, but terrible for a smooth quiet presentation (you're in the back of the 7-11 when a goblin enters...)

They make the same holster, but in a horizontal carry I'm gonna give a try. I'm just curious what you guys are using, or might suggest.

It truely depends on what one is doing every day wear latey has been a blackhawk serpa.

I think the must versitile is a pancake holster of some type.

I use a shoulder holster a lot over the years.

I use a fanny pack holster a lot also.

I also not a young buck any more I find a good set of suspenders really help with the hevier pistols when carried on the belt.

As there are many differant resons to carry there are many differant holster to meet the need.

Depending on the pistol or revolver, I use either an Apache slide, or one of Mernickles concealed carry holsters than can be used strong side or cross draw.

My 2 favorite are both IWB, slick finish on the inside, kind of a "suede-like" finish on the outside. Metal clip to go over the belt. They stay in place when I draw and add no significant bulk to the lines of whichever handgun I choose.

Absolutely. Makes all the difference in the world.

Look at Milt Sparks, I've got two for my govt. 1911, one open top straight up and down and on w/a snap, butt forward. When paired with a high quality belt, they make carrying a full size pistol a breeze.

All this talk of holters is great, but you have to match it with a quality gun belt.
