I have beeen helping a friend break in 3 new Colt 1911 Commanders in 45 ACP.

He bought these guns new about 15 years ago, shot a couple of magazines through them, cleaned them and put them away.

They are still box stock. Two are Combat Commanders, one is a "Lightweight" Commander.

All 3 of them have now had a little over 200 rounds of 230gr Hardball, and 100 rounds of RP 230gr Golden Saber.

They have been shot with 4 different kinds of magazines one of them with 5.

There has not been one single malfunction. Eeker

We have not shot them too much on paper yet, but they all can run a plate rack at 25 yards.

Their triggers are not match grade, but they are not too bad for a stock Colt.

One more range session, with some shots on paper and they will be good to go.

+1 thumb

I'd keep em if it was me. But if he ever decides to sell one, please let me know.

Yes, which was somewhat of a suprise to me.

The Lightweight Commander was made in the very early 1970's.

One Combat Commander was made sometime in the 1970's, the other sometime in the 1980's.

All three were box stock, and did not appear to have been fired when my buddy got them, I saw them when he first acquired them.

I want to shoot them one more time, but I would trust them "good to go" today.

I like to have 300 to 400 rounds of flawless performance, through ANY gun my life might depend on.

Sorry Zeke I am not capable of interned pictures.

Nothing special about these Commanders, they are out of the box stock.

I know I will get them for one more range session, at least.

We are going to put together a few of this and a few of that, ie what ever we have in the left over 45 ACP ammo department, and test functioning with them.

Zeke, also...
