My good buddy and cousin is considering purchasing a Kimber Solo 9mm for concealed carry. I've heard mixed reports about them. Some of the online reviews give them good marks, while others are negative with regard to feeding and ejection.

Does anyone have any first hand experience with these pistols?

You might want to post this on the Concealed Weapons Forum rather than the Handgun Hunting forum. Off hand I would say that faultless feeding and ejection would be a first priority for a carry gun, but that's just me.

My Son has one. When he first bought,we ran about 200 rounds of 125grain LRN reloads through it with out a hiccup.I liked it.Nicer trigger pull than my LC9.

I have shot one but that is about the extent of my experience with them. The owner of the handgun said that 115gr ammo doesn't feed as reliable as the 124gr or 147gr ammo. Wouldn't bother me to much since I carry 124gr ammo for CCW.
I think the manual states that you should not use 115gr ammo.

I have owned one for about a year and carry it regularly. As clearly stated in the owners manual, you must carry 124gr (or heavier) PREMIUM ammo. Mine works perfectly if I comply with the rules. 115gr works fairly well but not 100%. I have a ton of it so I just shoot that stuff for a little practice (and malfunction drill practice Roll Eyes) My Golden Saber 124+P and now Hornady Critical Duty 135+P are totally reliable as carry ammo. I got mine in a trade and am happy with it but I probably would not buy one at retail considering the ammo requirements and the very high price tag $650+. Probably would just get one of the new Ruger LC9 S (striker) models for about $350 and not worry about it.

Found this:

I am not sure why a person would be so married to the Kimber when there are so many other options out there eg. the Sig! But I too like guns because of the look. Having said that, it certainly seems that guns seem to have ejection problems as the barrel length gets kinda short! Guess the timing of the spring needs to be played with.

A handgun designed not to work with most likely the most common ammo available for that caliber 115gr 9mm.

No thank you

piss poor design IMHO
